Guest guest
Bethany, Have the boys shown any symptoms of mito? Are you concerned about this or just the surgery itself? If you're concerned about non-mito related tonsilectomy, it is pretty routine. Usually done outpatient now I think. Recovery shouldn't be too bad. A couple of days of pain. If you're worried because they may have mito but not diagnosed, I would suggest having the anesthesiologist read up on the effects of anesth. with mito. They are at an increaed risk for MH (malignant hypothermia) and certain anest. should be avoided. I think there is the info at www.UMDF.org. I would think that they would want to be cautious with the family history. Good luck, Dawn

Guest guest
Bethany- I had my tonsils removed when I was 15. I had chronic tonsillitis and strep infections as well. I did really well with the actual surgery but had a long painful recovery. I've heard the younger you are when you have them removed the better you do and the less painful it is. Guest guest
dawn, i guess i have concerns with both the normal surgery and also our family history. i also think i am concerned b/c it is both of our boys that they are recommending the surgery...not just one of them. it's always something, isn't it? i will bring to the attention of ent doctor, and also anesthesiologist re: the malignant hypothermia ( I have it written in a letter for anna grace, so i will use that documentation) also, thanks to all who has responded. it is helpful to hear others experiences. bethany > Bethany, > > Have the boys shown any symptoms of mito? Guest guest
hi, well we haven't had brigitte's out but she goes the 11th of march to have it done. not because of strep or any thing but because she has sleep apenea and they wont do anything about that till the tonsils and adnoieds come out even though the ent they sent us to told the pulmenary dr they don't need to be removed.i'll let you know how it goes . keep her in your prayers for that as i am scared about having it done. karen earlywine tonsillitis hi, just wondering if any of your children have had their tonsils removed?all three of my kids keep getting strep throat (4-5 time this winter and the same last winter), so our pediatrician has recommended that both boys have their tonsils removed. She does not want Grace (leighs) to have the surgery and is hoping once both boys have surgery, then hopefully she won't be infected as much! I was tested today (in hopes that maybe I am the carrier, but I am not)anyway, we have an appt. with an ent next week. I'm just not sure of what to expect and feel nervous having to decide whether both boys (ages 7 & 4) should have the surgery.thanks, bethanymom to brennan 7, palmer & anna grace (leighs) 4Please contact mito-owner with any problems or questions.
