Years ago I had several episodes of a "nonfunctioning" gallbladder, but I never had it removed, I was placed on a very bland diet for quite a while and eventually it passed. Once in a while even now I will have problems with it, but so far I have been able to get by without surgery.

As to the Reglan question. I myself have never had a problem with it, but I had a labor patient a few years back that we gave it to her for nausea and she immediately had a granmal seizure. I had never seen that happen before or since, and I hope I never do. This woman had never had any type of seizures before that. Thank goodness the outcome was OK once the Reglan was neutralized.

I have been following your posts about the children and I hope they are all doing better and are over the Pertussis. Also hope Porrah and Azenath are doing as well as they can. My heart and prayers go out to you. You have an awfully large plate that seems to be getting very full. Will you be able to get some help while you are laid up with surgery?

I had the same experience about six years ago. I had excruciating pain in my shoulder as well as upper abdominal pain. After doing an ultrasound and functioning test, mine was also found to not be working right and they removed it the next week. The surgery was done laprascopicly and I was home the next day. It was a little rough the first couple of days after surgery but, have had no problems since. I will pray that only your gallbladder is involved. Good luck!

Gall bladder dysfunction

Hi all,

After leaving Mayo on Wednesday with pain in the upper abdomen I went home feeling a little better only to get excruciating pain on Thursday again. I decided to go to the hospital when it became apparent that I needed some help to get through this episode. The ER did an X-ray and ultrasound of my gall bladder and found no stones but felt that the gall bladder wasn't functioning properly. This morning (Friday) I had a function test that revealed the gall bladder was unable to fill up until after injection morphine to relax it. So, I need to have it removed. They hope this will alleviate the pain I have been battling off and on for the past 5 months. Has anyone else had this problem and was there more involved with the pancreas as well? That is what Dr. Whiteman worried about. I was send home today with pain killers and told the operation would take place! within the next two weeks sometime. I just hope to not hurt like that again!!! But am happy to be home with the kids again. Asenath really missed me.

I also had an episode with Reglan that was unpleasant. Anyone else?

attacks and had to have it out. I now after 7 yrs. am having the

same sort of pain esp. after a drink or higher fat meal. i can only

assume it is my pancreas. Unfortunately, I have had no time to

adress this issue. Surgery is pretty routine, and healing time

minimal (esp. if compared with childrbirth!!!haha). I got the flu

after and that hurt, but other than that it wans't so bad. Hopefully

you can avoid another attack before surgery. Horribly painful isn't

it? Just avoid fried foods as much as possible.

severe and I lost more than 10 pounds from not being able to eat. They

didn't find any stones just delayed emptying. At the time I was

nursing my youngest child (who would not take a bottle), so surgery was

not an option. The flare ended and nearly 10 years later I still have

my gallbladder. I rarely have problems, but when I do I take milk

thistle and the pain goes away in about an hour.

friend had hers removed also but they never found any stones. They just

removed it in hopes that she would feel better. She did.

Both of my children have problems with reglan. It can cause tardive

I have had issues with my Gall bladder for at least 7 years now. All I get is ultrasounds that show no stones. I have never had any farther testing done, maybe because I'm allergic to morphine. The doctors swear there is a problem, just nobody knows what. I wish I could just have it removed, as do the doctors, but insurance will not pay unless the ultrasound shows infection or stones. I really don't know if it affects the pancreas or not. I just know Gall bladders hurt really bad. Did you notice it worse when you were pregnant? I usually get really bad pain when pregnant. Well, sorry there is no good advise here. I can just sympathize with the pain. Also I have heard from several people that the surgery is not bad at all. My dad had it done, back when they had to do it open, he said the surgery was nothing compared to the pain before. Best of luck.

It is ridiculous that they haven't done it thus far. You can't show function with an ultrasound. Demand your rights and get the function test then they will know if you really need it removed.
