I sure hope the surgery goes well for , if and when it is done. Let me know if you have any ?'s, I would be glad to be of help and support. Chelsea was in the very same boat about 4 yrs ago now. Putting her on phenobarb significantly affected her swallow and she slid downhill and started getting sick. Her gtube was placed at the very moment her lungs were clear enough to do the surgery, she also had a nissen placed at the same time to prevent reflux aspiration. She was formula fed until last year, when I transitioned her to a blenerized vegan diet. If you are interested in how I do that, just let me know.
