Guest guest
Hi-I wanted to introduce myself and ask some questions. My name is Helene and I have 3 year old twin boys. One is PDD-NOS and one is NT with about 8 traditional food allergies. I also suspect he may have intolerances due to his mood swings and aggressive behaviors, but he may also just be in the throes of the 3 year old experience. We have been wheat/dairy/peanut/egg/soy/tree nut/barley free since age 1 due to 's allergies except for Connor's beveredges. He always had gallons of milk. We have been cf since January/Connor's diagnosis at age 2 and completely (or so we hope) gfcf since July. We saw immediate improvements and then steady gains. I even enrolled Connor in a typical Nursery School for the fall. Then we went on vacation, celebrated birthdays and hosted holidays and he regressed. I think it must be a combo of mistakes, overwhelming change in routines due to vacation/holidays and possible seasonal effect. After asking an innocent question for pros and cons for enzymes on the gfcfkids list which started a heated debate, I decided to come here to hear it straight from the horses' mouth. Patti and in particular inspired me with their personal accounts and efforts to educate. It's nice to see familiar names. So I am almost ready to hand my baby and his poor leaky gut over to the teachers in the preschool disabled class and would like to begin this before he goes into playdoh/pretzel world. I figure if I can't be 100% positive with everything I feed him, how can they. Well hello after all of that. I've already learned volumes worth. The introductory information was great and here are my questions. I plan on starting Connor on enzymes as soon as I order and order arrives. Will starting probiotics a week before this confuse or hinder anything? I know he tolerates these (Ultra bifidu DF and lactobacillus GG) from previous month of use. I also have other supplements from my DAN nutritionist that I never started and am wondering if any would be of benefit to begin before beginning the enzymes-we have Moducare with sterols and sterolins, glutagenics with glutamine, licorice, amd aloe, co-enzyme B complex and citrimin II. The citrimin is my big question because it has magnesium and zinc-the minerals suggested for controling hyperactivity when starting enzymes. Would it make sense to start this first since I have it on hand to avoid problems? Also it was mentioned in the introductory info that oats help heal the gut. Has an oat that is gluten free been identified? Has anyone used the same enzymes on their NT children or would others be appropriate. I'd be interested in knowing if they could help some of 's severe mood swings, but obviously don't want to give him something just because Connor is taking it. I'm sure I had other questions, but they'll come back to me! Thanks in advance, and thaks for such a kind and gentle format with so much infor.Helene

Mood swings and aggression can be yeast and/or phenol issues. http://home.pacbell.net/cscomp/phenol.htm > Then we went on vacation, celebrated birthdays and hosted holidays and he > regressed. Seasonal effect can be phenol induced. http://home.pacbell.net/cscomp/sad.htm > The introductory information was great and here are my questions. > I plan on starting Connor on enzymes as soon as I order and order arrives. > Will starting probiotics a week before this confuse or hinder anything? My son did not tolerate any probiotics. Additionally, if your child has a yeast issue, presumably probiotics will create die-off. If either of these things happens, then you won't know if it is probiotics/die-off, or bad reaction to enzymes, or enzymes creating regression/withdrawal. I would wait at least a week between introducing each of these things. > and am wondering if any would be of benefit to begin before beginning the > enzymes-we have Moducare with sterols and sterolins, glutagenics with > glutamine, licorice, amd aloe, co-enzyme B complex and citrimin II. Would it make > sense to start this first since I have it on hand to avoid problems? My son does not tolerate basically any supplements, but I have never tried the ones you have indicated here. I always recommend starting each supplement and/or intervention alone, then waiting at least a week before starting another one. > > Also it was mentioned in the introductory info that oats help heal the gut. > Has an oat that is gluten free been identified? My kids do not tolerate gluten, including oats, even with enzymes. Oats is not the same type of gluten, and even some celiacs can tolerate it, but not my kids. > > Has anyone used the same enzymes on their NT children or would others be > appropriate. I use enzymes with my NT daughter as well as my two AS boys. She has same food issues as the boys. The enzymes work great with her also. I'd be interested in knowing if they could help some of 's > severe mood swings, but obviously don't want to give him something just > because Connor is taking it. If mood swings are because of phenols, then enzymes help with that somewhat but not entirely. So you can try and see if they help for your child.
