Welcome .

Believe me, you are not alone in this quest. Your story is just like many of us

here which is why this site is sooo helpful. The majority of us here have had

or is having the surgery because of functional reasons, but the cosmetic results

are definitely a welcomed bonus. There are some who are doing it purely for

cosmetic reasons, but I'm not mad at them. :-) I say " do what's right for

you! " They have my vote, too. :-)

Anyway, this may sound strange, but the best way to heal " quickly " is to take it

" slowly " . Do not try to overdo it. Drink plenty of liquids...being wired, I

guess you have no choice...water is a must. Don't just lay around the house

feeling sorry for yourself or looking for pity parties. Get up! Walk around

the house, the block, wherever. Do something...just not too much. Listen to

your body, but don't " tell " your body it's " sick " .

I got up, showered and got dressed EVERY morning no matter what. When I was

feeling bad, it actually made me feel better. Expect swelling, and don't let it

freak you out...it will go away.

I liked what your doctor said to you about looking attractive now and stunning

afterwards...what a great doctor. :-) Where my jaws were " broken " (I had upper

and lower done) did not feel weird at all...at any time. The numbness is like

what you feel when you come from the dentist...it's just more intense and lasts

a lot longer...that is, if you have numbness. Some don't, some only for a

little while, some even longer...and I'll stop right there.

Fiddlesticks suggests the MLD therapy for swelling and such. Many have

had success from it. My OS suggested that I try it, but I haven't gotten a

chance to get an appt yet so I can't give you first-hand knowledge on that.

However, I've only heard good things about it. Check out the information on

site 2 and review the past posts - they will help you a great deal and answer

many, if not all of your questions. If you have any more, ask here...we'll

answer best as we can...and you can bet that most of it is first-hand

knowledge...very reliable. However, you must also remember that everyone is

different.

Being wired will be difficult, especially if you're a real chatterbox. The

recovery in general isn't really that bad past the first week...which will be

your most difficult. It was my most difficult and it wasn't bad at all. Really

no need to be scared, you'll do fine. If you want to " talk " , come to the site,

we're here to " listen " and " talk " back to you. I have found this site VERY

comforting during my recovery. When you feel down, you can " talk " about it -

anything and everything - and know that someone is listening and understanding

what you're going through. Cry, whine, laugh, joke, or whatever...you can do it

all here.

Good luck.

Surgery is set for Jan 28. I am a

nervous wreck.

Hi my name . I was the one who had all those problems picking

the right Dr a couple of months ago. I have a new Dr who I have a lot

of confidence in. My orthodontist thinks the world of him as well.

Being there working together thats very important. It costing me some

out of pocket expsenses but it worth it. I am having my lower jaw

moved foward a couple of millimeters

This whole thing is difficult for me because I am not doing it for

cosmetic reasons. I get plenty of guy flirting with me all the time.

As far as cosmetics. I can certainly see where my jaw off. The doctor

said to me you look very attractive now but in his opinion I look

stunning after the surgery. That somewhat motivating, however I am

doing it for functional reasons. I always have soreness in my jaw. A

lot of times I feel off balance. I just think that it may be related.

I feel like I look a cow when I chew some foods. I am fine with doing

this surgery, I am just scared of what I am about to go through as

far as recovery. How long does it take till you get used your new

positing of the jaw. Any advice on how to heal quickly? I am going to

be wired for 4 weeks. How difficult is that going to be? How long

till you start feeling like yourself. Any natural methods to bring

down swelling? Dose the are where your jaw was broken feel weird for

a long time? Any comforting words wd be appreciated Thanks much

. Sorry for being long winded.

I am scheduled the day before you:-). I can't be a nervous wreck yet

because the insurance company has yet to approve the surgery. I told

them that I had to have an answer by the 19th, so we will see what

happens there. I am sure that if I get the go ahead, I will be a

total bundle of nerves. I obviously don't have any answers for you,

but I just wanted to let you know that I wish you luck and hope to be

suffering right along with you:-).

I am right there with you. My surgery is the 29th. After months of

waiting, I'm getting nervous now that it's actually approaching in

just under 2 weeks! I'm just putting a lot of prayer and trust into

my surgeons right now and am praying that the recovery isn't

unbearable. I'll see both of you on the other side soon!
