the LBJ school at the univesity of texas (austin) supports a course of study

in public policy with a focus on health policy. while they do not highlight

migrants as a population they do focus on latinos and are affiliated with

the latin american studies department. the school houses the benson

collection which is a library with holdings dedicated to latin american

issues

,

Two books I recommend on women's occupational health are:

Suzanne Uttaro s, " Fetal Rights, Women's Rights, " (1995) about employer

fetal protection policies that were promulgated in the US in the 1980's. There

is an excellent chapter in this book on the dearth of OSH standards that protect

women and men from chemical exposures and reproductive problems that can arise.

Suzanne Uttaro s teaches political science and law at Seton Hall

University in New Jersey.

Messing, " One-Eyed Science Occupational Health and Women Workers " (1998).

She describes how osh study grants are made and how few study women workers or

women workers' issues (for instance, chemicals or ergonomics in a nail salon).

Also applicable in the farmworker setting. Messing works at CINBIOSE

http://www.unites.uqam.ca/cinbiose/ANGLAIS/INDEX.HTML

A summer researcher in my office, Gudger, did a research project on the

relationship between pregnancy discrimination and OSH, with special emphasis on

how of this applies to farmworkers. The memo is an internal project that will

be used for a couple of our legal research projects, but I am sure she wouldn't

mind talking to you about her resources, etc. mgudger@....

Hello,

I am currently researching universities to obtain a masters in public

policy, with a concentration in health policy.

I am interested in women's health, migrant health and the uninsured and want to

study at a university with professors who reseearch/teach those areas.
