Guest guest
Hi , Yes, there are other things you can do for your son as well...Garlic & mullein oil in his ears acts as a natural antibiotic. The best thing to do is to give him an OTC pain reliever to keep him comfortable (assuming he doesn't have any issues with these), also give him an OTC decongestant to help dry and drain and then the garlic oil to kill whatever beasties are building up. You should use the garlic oil for quite a stretch, as it doesn't have the same power to knock stuff out the the amoxy has...but it doesn't wreak the same havoc either. Then...this is So important...chances are good that your son will get another infection very soon. It's the time of year for exposures AND his resistance is down from this one AND you've compromised his body's ability to fight by letting the antibiotic do it for him. Not a slam, just a fact. I know, I did it too. Start on all the immune boosters you can now and when he gets a cold (the typical precursor to an ear infection) start the dry & drain techniche right away so that the mucous he produces doesn't get a chance to sit there and breed bacteria. The faster you drain the stuff, the better your chances of avoiding the infection. Even if you don't avoid it completely, he will be better served by letting his own body fight the infection than having antibiotics doing it for him. My pediatrician is very progressive about the overuse of antibiotics and even he prescribes them too often for my tastes. In Europe, over 85% of the infections we treat with antibiotics are treated homeopathically. They are quite stingy about antibiotics there. It is really hard to get off of the antibiotic cycle once you start because using them necessarily leaves your son vulnerable to the next thing that comes along (and there is always something to come along). You just have to bite the bullet and stop the cycle at some point and fight the stuff on your own. Just my humble opinion, as I have been where you are only much worse with three kids at a time and I stopped the cycle. Although we have had several infections and/or beginnings of infections since Christmas 2000, not one of my kids has had any antibiotics since then and they have gotten through the illness none the worse for wear. I have to tell you though,I would not have the confidence that I currently have without the electronic ear monitor that we bought. I know, every single time I look into my kids' ears, exactly what is going on and this tells me what my next step should be. I highly recommend this purchase. It will save you countless dollars on doctors, antibiotics, travel, logistical inconveniences, and discomfort on the part of your child. It will also empower you to take control instead of relying on the doctor's opinions. You may still heed the doc's advice, but it will be out of choice-not desperation. Good luck andbe brave. You can do this. It's a piece of cake compared with the supplement monster of autism! lol Amber
Guest guest
Dear , I always feel a little odd recommending things I haven't used, but you can take it as that and look into there further if it suits you. I have heard people SWEAR BY the effectiveness of both of these: For ear infections: 1. acidopholus (sp) in ears. Just mix some acidopholous powder into a little bit of water to make a mushy solution. Put some in ears. That's it. As I've heard it, there is no specific amount or formula or ratio of water to powder. I'd expect to repeat this for a few days while trying to judge if it is helping. 2. hydrogen peroxide in ears. This is probably a lot harder to implement! You need to have child (or whoever) lay on their side -- put the peroxide into ear, then LEAVE IT THERE for a couple minutes at least. If there is an infection, there will be bubbling and popping noises--- which may make your child (or you) very anxious. I've done this (when I'm getting a cold etc) and the sound and sensation varies. The bubbling and popping is " a good thing " (indicates baddies are being killed off) but could be unnerving. Use plain old 3% hydrogen peroxide (brown bottle). CAUTION: I've read a couple of reports that if done frequently this can lead to dryness in ears that is problematic. I have not experienced this (but I've done it at most twice a day for 2 or 3 days). (BTW I haven't had dramatic or phenomenal results in using this for colds--- but have read of people who have had great results using this when first coming down with a cold, and --your case-- for ear infections. I haven't used it for that, myself.) best wishes, Moria p.s. more info on both of these: oxyplus list on groups.
