The dentist, OS and ortho were all in agreement that the crowns should wait until after surgery and postsurgery orthodontia were completed. I'm just getting around to having it done now and my op was August '02. Cheryl

Guest guest
While I don't really know the answer to this one, I suspect that it's individual and depends on how bad the damage is. I know that my ortho, my surgeon, and my general dentist would all love to see me get crowns at least from canine to canine on top. However, nobody's offered a free program, so that's on hold for a while. It may well become medically and or dentally necessesary. Those teeth are full of shallow composite fillings, which have washed out at least one time already. I suspect that there is little structure remaining, and that will provide the dental reason for the crowning, eventually, in which case I hope for some help, at least, from the insurance company. If I were you, I'd think I would want a team -- an ortho, surgeon and general dentist (and any other specialists, such as endo or perio, who might be involved) making the evaluations and conferring on the decisions. I find dentists all very willing to consult with each other on these matters of mixed treatments, and am grateful that they are.
