Surgical Hooks and Wires - Less Confused - More Emotional

I've been fighting back tears since I left my ortho's office. I feel

like there is no turning back now.

My ortho and his assistant put my surgical hooks and wires on today.

I asked my ortho for his opinion concerning my OS saying that if he

performed upper only he would need to seat the upper with the slanted

lowers, causing my jaws to be slanted. My ortho said that crooked

jaws/teeth wouldn't be good and that I should get it done right the

first time. My ortho called my OS and spoke with him. He came back

over to me and said that my OS should be able to make the upper

perfectly straight and then band the lowers up to the upper,

eliminating the need for lower surgery which he discourages for my

tmjs. My ortho gave me the option to postpone surgery until he gets

the lowers pulled up to the uppers on my left side, even though it

would be best to have the surgery first. It was my last chance to

chicken out and I said that I will go with his recommendation to get

the surgery on the 31st as planned and then have him continue my

ortho treatment(rubber bands) after surgery to pull my left lower

teeth up to eliminate the slant the best he can. He said that this

treatment plan is what he would do if his wife had ith the same tmj

problems as me. I like his answer and especially like only needing

upper surgery. My husband was leaning toward having me get both

upper and lower because he didn't want to look at slanted teeth when

looking at me. Hopefully when I see my OS on the 23rd he will agree

with my ortho and then plan for Lefort 1 (2 or 3 piece) on New Years

Eve.
