purple under eyes and epsom salt

I just gave my son an epsom salt bath. I noticed at the end of it he had

purple under his eyes. He might of had it before the bath. I can't be

sure, but it doesn't seem like he did. Has anyone ever noticed purple under

eyes after epsom bath? Could it be pulling toxins out and that cause the

purple? Thanks everyone.

Diane, that is what I think, too... the sulfation process is moving

things around. If you see a deterioration in behaviors, then you may

need to step the amount down a bit... my son reacted to the higher

amounts of salts, so I dropped down to a teaspoon and then increased

from there. Now he tolerates about one cup in a full tub of water

and sometimes there may be a little deterioration in behavior, but

generally not. I think it is helping him, so I keep it at the one

cup level.

I have noticed that he does seem a little cranky afterward. And today he's

real cranky. Could affect him today?

That's the way my son was-- cranky the next day (because we do them

at bedtime). So yes, maybe cut back on the amount, and do a small

amount every day...we were doing the teaspoon in the tub every day

for a week, then increasing it slowly up and up and up... should help

him get used to it, and the small amount should help eliminate that

crankiness.

What causes the crankiness and the purple with the epsom salt. What exactly

is it doing?

Well, maybe someone who knows more than me can butt in but I *think*

that what I have read is that the sulfation provided by the magnesium

sulfates (which is a necessary process for the body-- we all do

sulfation, it's just that autistic/sid kids have trouble with

sulfation), anyway, the sulfation process is stirring up the phenols

that are *in there*... the sulfation helps the body process phenols,

but if you have been building up a high phenol level, that initial

sulfation process is what can cause that purple circle look, and

phenols do cause crabby behavior, so the sulfation is getting the

phenols going, which is making the circles and behavior you are

seeing. You are seeing him deal with a large load of phenols--the

magnesium sulfates are not causing the problem, the magnesium

sulfates are helping the problem that was there to begin with...

that's why if you lessen the amount of salts, you should see his body

be able to deal with it better. Like I said, we were just doing a

teaspoon, and actually, initially, I just did a teaspoon a week...

now we do one cup of salts about twice a week. Sometimes a little

more sometimes a little less. I don't see dramatic change in Ethan

because I think he is still having to deal with phenols (I have not

ordered the no-fenol yet), but he is not acting crabby or anything

from the baths. My daughter responded really well to the sulfation

process, and I continue to see of good progress with her whenever I

give her an epsom salt bath--especially if it has been a couple of

weeks between baths.

Hi,

>From what I know, sulfate won't stay too long in the system, only 4-8

hours, so I doubt that what you see the next day is caused by the

sulfate itself. It may be something else... I don't know what...

right, I think that the sulfate is done doing it's job by the next

morning, however, the phenols may not be fully " done " yet, so I do

think it is the phenols that are causing the dark circles and the

behavior.
