If you must, ask your surgeon and/or your ortho whether it's a concern -- it's up to them, after all, to figure out a way to get it done. As for trying to open your mouth -- ask your os or your ortho whether you are ready for some exercises. There are some, and there are some tricks using tongue depressors, but don't start in on any of that without permission and instructions, or you could cause yourself more troubles.
