Hey People,

My baby girl (20 years old) has just been diagnosed with TMJ...now I can really

relate to the guilt feelings parents have regarding this surgery. My head tells

me I had nothing to do with it, but my heart is sooo heavy...I feel like there

must have been something I could/should have done to prevent this from happening

to her. Right now, I am trying so hard to hold back the tears...I guess I'll go

to bed, it's almost 1:00 a.m.

Everyone have a good night.

Ah Smooches, I'm so sorry. I know how you feel to some extent. My

daughter has a genetic quirk that left her with missing teeth, which

in turn created an open bite. She's only 4 and has already seen an

orthodontist and oral surgeon. They want her in braces by 7,

possible surgery in her teens. After going through this surgery

myself I have cried many nights feeling like a horrible mom, wanting

to change the future, make everything okay for her..It's so hard

when they're your baby. Just wanted to let you know I'm sorry, and

it's obvious you're a wonderful mom to empathize and love so much.

Amen. Don't blame yourself.

I believe that blame and guilt are both totally unproductive -- but

also don't feel guilty about feeling guilty. Now we're going in a

real circle.

Time to regroup. You know a lot about this topic, and how to fix it

and when. How fortunate she is to have those resources, as well as

your help and support! I'll bet you won't be one of those moms who

try to discourage daughters from getting the thing fixed. Nor by

telling her how pretty she is, and just not to worry about all that

silly, cosmetic surgery stuff.

Pick up and go on, and help her, if it's possible, to avoid some of

the worse pitfalls of these troubles -- ravaged joints, deteriorated

disks, damaged teeth, etc.!

You got the spunk. You got the experience. Go for it!

Thanx Coach Cammie - I needed that kick in the behind, too! :-) I will

definitely make sure she gets what she needs before it goes too far.
