Guest guest
Lorann, If the pain feels sharp and is localized right in front of your ear, I very highly doubt that it's muscular. I had a lot of muscle pain pre-op, and the post-op joint pain was very, very different. " Ice pick in the ear " seems to be a pretty common description of what joint pain feels like. If you strongly believe you're having joint, not muscle pain, go to another doctor. The pain is not your imagination and there are things that can be done to help you if you have a doctor who knows what he/she is doing. If your orthodontist is still trying to tell you that it's muscular and won't refer you to anyone else for a second opinion, you might try making an appointment with your family doctor to get a referral to someone else for the TMJ pain. Best to you, and I'm here if you need to vent. I can't say that you don't have to live this way, but you very likely won't have to if you get proper medical treatment. > > > I am about 4 months post-op from lower jaw advancement.
