Guest guest
Hey everyone, I am now exactly today 16 months post-op! I haven't posted in a while, so I thought I would update everyone now. For those of you who don't already know, I had a class III underbite. I had to have upper/lower jaw surgery on August 8, 2002. A year before that I had my wisdom teeth removed, and also braces put on. I was extremely nervous....but if it meant being able to put my teeth together for the first time then I was all for it. It was a journy indeed. I am 17 years old, at the time only 16. I went in for my surgery early that morning and was brought to the recovery room to start out my iv's and say my .. " till I get out's " to my family and friends...then I was wheeled to the surgery room, and they lifted me up on the opperateing table...I felt like a peice of meet being prepared to be butchured..it was scary. I was told they were gonna give me some oxygen, and within a minute I was out....I don't remember being in the recovery room. The surgery had taken 5 1/2 hours to complete, then three hours in recovery...which I don't remember. I remember someone saying we're going to take you to your room now, but thats all i remember from that part. Then I was bruoght to my room where lots of my family and friends were, and it was like a dream, I was just listening to them talk to me, but I couldn't respond..it was weird. So i just shut my eyes and tried to sleep. I didn't feel any pain, but my throat was soar and i was sleepy and felt druged up. I spent three nights in the hospital, I had lots of visitors and Lots of flowers and after the second night they removed my catheter and moriphene iv, and had me start walking around. I was forced to try to take percicet then, but when taking them i'd get sick because they bairly fit in my mouth and it was hard to swallow even with jello...and not good on an empty stomach. But I forced myslef to take them anyways. The pain wasn't anything at all, I just got frusterated all of the time trying to communicate with people and stuff. When I got home I was happy to see my own bed, but my mom insisted my dad take my bed ...because my room was upstairs, and she had me stay on the first floor in her room with her, so she could help me if I needed anything. well on the second night I was thirsty I didn't want to wake her up though so I went into the kitchen myslef, as i was opening a bottle of gatoraide or somthing, i remember getting mad because i was too weak to open the cap, and the next i knew i was looking up at the kitchen light and my mom was saying my name to me. I had fainted, hit my head on the kitchen counter, and sliced my head open. It was about a two inch long cut, and fairly deep. My mom and dad took me to the emergency room, and I begged the doctor not to do stiches..I had school in three weeks and I didn't want him shaving my hair lol. So he said that If i took good care of it he would do glue stiches. So he did that, and then as my mom was reveiwing the how to care for the cut with the doctor, my dad was getting the car, i felt really cold all of the sudden and said " mom i think i'm going to " then the next thing i knew i was looking up at the doctor. I had done it again. I made it home and went to sleep, then that night i went back to the hospital, and was told to drink untill i had to pee, because i was so dehydrated I had to have two bags of iv fluids. Then the next two weeks i worked on getting better, weekly visits to my doctor, and work on stretches and eating the way he would tell me to each week. at the three week post op point i started my junior year of high school, and i had a note telling my teachers that i needed to limit my oral praticipation. From that point on everything slowly but shurly got better, and back to normal. I couldn't beleive the outcome though it was amazing, everything i had gone through was well worth it afterwards. Thats my story. Here I am today, right now though my main focus's are SAT's, collage admissions, essays, letters of recomendation, my work, and having a good senior year! That was deffintly an important point in my life though, and I will never forget it. If anyone has any questions at all feel free to email me at: Katelyn8_00@... Guest guest
, You are one incredible young woman to go through all that at such a young age. Bravo! I too, have a class III, but with an open bite. I'm so happy that you're satisfied with the results. I guess it makes the whole ordeal worth it, huh? Good luck to you in your future endeavors.
