Guest guest
Mark, I had popping and clicking in both jaws pre-op, but post-op I've had no problems with it. I'm approaching 10 weeks post-op and I can't even imagine chewing on steak yet (then again, I guess I wouldn't because I don't like steak anyway - LOL!). I'm still having problems chewing noodles. Good luck at your appointment tomorrow. Smooches Jaw Opening and Pop Hi All: I am fast approaching my 6th week post op and am finally starting to feel more normal. I still notice changes in the swelling each week. My lower lip and chin are still mostltly numb except now I can feel light sensations on the surface and tingles each time i move that area. My jaw opening is still only at 21mm (2 fingers) even though I am doing the exercises. My surgeon has sent me to physical thearpy which I just started this week. One thing I notice is that occassionally my right jaw pops a little when i open it. I was a little concerned because my therapist mentioned that anytime you have a pop or click in the jaw something is not right. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this? It does not hurt. Also, anyone else take a long time to get normal opening and what exercises were the most effective? My doc visit is tomorrow and he mentioned he may allow me to try some steak. I don't know how well I will do with that. Although I can chew some, my bite still feels strange and also like I don't have any bite power or ability to chew fine particles. Guest guest
Mark: I believe that popping in your jaw can occur when the disc in your TMJ joint is slightly dislocated, which does not always mean something has to be done to fix it, especially if you don't have pain. I had popping and pain for years & worsening TMJ problems. I later addionally had an injury to my jaw, and for me, I knew something was really wrong when my jaw instantly stopped popping due to the injury. I ended up having TMJ surgery for a dislocated disc. I was told it was slightly dislocated before the injury, and then after the injury it was very dislocated. That was about 16 years ago. Although my TMJ is much better now, I needed upper jaw surgery (had it 3 weeks ago) for an open bite. While being in braces over the last year, my jaw sometimes popped, possibly due to the changing bite. My surgeon wasn't concerned about it at that point. He's going to be keeping an eye on my TMJ now that I'm post op to make sure things stay under control. The bottom line is although your popping may not necessarily mean something bad is wrong, I would discuss it with your doctor. > > Hi All: > > I am fast approaching my 6th week post op and am finally starting to > feel more normal. Guest guest
Mark:):) Hi my name is mary and I am 9 weeks post-op. (upper/lower/genio) Before surgery I had trouble with my jaw clicking and locking. Now after surgery, it actually has gotten worse. The cliking is much more noticable to those around me who hear it, and it is a bit painful at times (it was not painful before surgery). The locking has only happened twice since surgery where it happened almost everyday before surgery. So that has improved some. My OS put me on a soft diet, so far no luck with that. He suggested that I get a cotisone shot if the soft diet does not help the situation. I have only been on the soft diet for about a week now. So I think it will take some time before I notice a difference. Good luck with the steak. Make sure your Doctor knows about the jaw problem. He may want to put you on a soft diet as well. Hope this helps:) :) > > Hi All: > > I am fast approaching my 6th week post op and am finally starting to > feel more normal.
