Hello! I'm 24 years old, in braces for the second time, and

considering having orthognastic surgery to correct my open bite.

However, I'm also fighting to correct my tongue thrust habit and I'm

worried that I'll go through the trauma of surgery and then my

tongue thrust will push my bite open again. Has anyone out there

with a tongue thrust had surgery? Would love to hear your story.

Thank so much!

I had a tongue thrust before surgery, that I worked on correcting by

putting a piece of candy at that top of my mouth and holding it

there while swallowing. But after surgery, my mouth is in a

completely different position and my tongue does not thrust at

all.My os said he figured the tongue thrusting would pretty much be

cleared up by surgery and it was. He also said that an open bite and

tongue thrust kind of go hand in hand since you don't want to be

drooling all over yourself and the tongue jumps in to compensate. I

had an open bite, and now, I have this wonderful bite that I can't

stop staring at!!! Good luck, Alix
