Guest guest
Hi Patti! Not sure what I wrote originally but what I meant to say was that I did not have an underbite ... I had an openbite which is technically different from an overbite, but it sure looked like an overbite to the untrained eye. I did not have pain but had tons of clicking under my right ear which I had gotten used to over time. What drove me to surgery was that my dentist told me that due to the open bite (only my back molars touched), I was wearing my back teeth down at an alarming rate and in order to preserve my teeth, I needed to get the bite fixed via braces and surgery. I was one of the fortunate ones who had a surgeon whose office handled all of the insurance paperwork so I was not really involved in it. I know it took a very long time to get the approval. I have no idea what terminology or records the surgeon supplied to Aetna. I do know that Aetna came back to him a few times requesting more records, impressions, all sorts of stuff. But it eventually went through. I was very lucky to not have to be a part of that whole ordeal. I'm sorry ... this isn't much help re: your insurance question. Good luck! Irish! > I was wondering. You mentioned you had neither a over bite or underbite, but an open bite. Did you have pain or anything? Did the insurance cover the surgery and if so, what was the reason they did cover it. I am just wondering what the insurance does cover and for what reasons. Thanks, Patti
