Re: Flossing after surgery...

I really don't remember, but I do recall my dental hygienist telling

me that slacking off a bit post-op wasn't going to do any severe

damage. I would be concerned about forcing your jaws open to get back

there. I have a friend who insisted on flossing her rear molars

during the first week post-op (she had upper/lower) and I still feel

it may have been responsible for her relapse - of course I am not an

expert, and I wouldn't like to say that to her personally. I did tell

her to go easy with the floss for the first few weeks.

One brand of floss I did use exclusively was Glide Floss Threaders -

it's floss and a threader all in one. So you just poke it in between

your archwire and your gums, in between your teeth, and pull it

through (I'll admit, at times I tried to use a pair of tweezers to

pull it through, it's darned hard to get in there when your opening

is slim).

Eating stuff that requires less cleaning is also an option, although

I know it can be boring (soup, soup and more soup!).

Good luck!

They're available here in drug stores (yes, I used at least a bale

of 'em). I believe I've seen them in CVS and in Walgreen's. I think

you can also order them on line.
