Guest guest
Hi everyone Finally had my surgeon consult today after my ortho deemed me ready for surgery. Firstly he allayed my fears and said going to Australia in early August wouln't be a problem. You may remember my concerns from a previous post. I was there for just over two hours - had X-rays, Photos, molds and some rubbery imprint of my bite taken. The surgeon will see me again in two weeks but it looks like it is all on barring anything odd he sees from all the work done today. I am hoping I may be able to have surgery around April/May to fit in with travel plans. Good thing is - he doesn't think my upper wisdom teeth are in the way - not so good thing is - he has suggested upper surgery as well as lower. He say bringing the lower jaw forward lengthens the face and this may make lip competency more difficult as I have a 'gummy smile' - not something I have been too conscious of - more the sticky out teeth. Reducing the upper jaw would give the lips a more natural look. He says to think about it and we can discuss pros and cons at next appointment. In a way I half expected this, reading posts from you all but it is freaking me out a little. It seems the ride will be a little more difficult and recovery possible longer? It makes sense to have them both done at the same time and I don't like the idea of having lower done and then regretting the result. Has anyone had to make this decision? Just to reiterate I'm 44 with recessive jaw and overbite - and dying to get out of braces! thanks for listening Sue (UK)
