Hi guys, I am now 4 weeks post op from upper and lower surgery (class

III) this is my short account of my surgery experience.

The day before surgery : Did not sleep very well, had nightmares that

the surgery went wrong and all my teeth fell out!

Surgery day: the surgery took just over 4 hours with upper jaw

advancement of 6mm (also rotated to fix centre line) Lower jaw

reduction and 2mm (rotated to fix centre line) chin reduction 4mm.

woke up with oxygen mask on, nose tube , drain tubes from lower

cheeks, jaws wired with splint and feeling drousy.

stayed in hospital for 5 days

Note : the surgery is NOT SORE! its just the annoyance of the drips

(antibiotic, etc), not being able to eat. getting daily blood tests ,

sleeping upright, not being able to talk very well, X rays and being

bored!

week 1/ 2 : swelling!! your face will be swollen to almost comic

proportions. ( numb areas on the face/gums is normal) you look in the

mirror and wonder why did you go through with this!

week 3 : swelling will reduce dramatically , but will still be swollen

you will begin to feel " normal " and begin to appreciate the new look

of your face!

week 4 : this is me now and getting fed up of a liquid died (LOST

LOTS OF WEIGHT) and hopefully getting wires out on Thursday!!

hope this helps all you guys getting surgery soon!!

Mark
