It's that I'm not an able co-moderator, and susan's been out of pocket a bit because of a heavy schedule lately. But I think you can see what you want there now. Nope. Nobody told me not to do dairy, and I did it throughout. I only had lower, though, and wasn't wired, and had no lactose problems. Especially if you're having upper, you might inquirei about Arnica, a homeopathic (ok? ?) remedy that purports to diminish swelling. Also you'll want a humidifier, some nose spray (both saline, which you can use pretty frequently unless your doc objects, and something like Afrin or Sudafed. But don't use the Afrin too often, or you will have more trouble than help from it. Steamy showers or baths. Q-Tips moistened with hydrogen peroxide. You'll do fine. You'll have a few tough days, probably, but you'll get through them. Honest. Oh -- and drink lots of water post-op, too! My hospital sent me home with many, many syringes. But ask your surgeon, or even call and ask the hospital, before hand. You don't want to have to go trekking out to find them. (I didn't need them at all.) Guest guest
ann, The hospital sent me home with two syringes. I used them for things like baby food and pudding. It was harder to use them and you had to keep refilling them to get enough food down. I would suggest that you order some zip-n-squeeze bags - they are easier to use for soups and liquids and you don't have to keep refilling (save that energy!) I didn't have the non-dairy requirement prior to surgery - I find that a bit strange, but your surgeon knows best. I heard that there is a possibility that you can become lactose intolerant after surgery if you consume too much dairy, but I don't know the reason why you would need to stop prior to. They didn't mention why? I wonder if it is because you tend you build more mucous with more dairy? Also drink plenty of water after surgery to help flush everything out and to help with the congestion and swelling - the more you can get down the better. > I appreciate all of the information passed along to me, when I > inquired about what to expect from the post-op period.
