If you have an open bite AND a cross bite, I'm guessing you'll need

braces for a while to get things lined up properly for surgery.

But I'm neither an ortho nor a surgeon.

I have read that lower is more likely to cause numbness, while upper

brings more swelling and congestion. I had lower only, had no

numbness and minimal pain.

Good wishes to you! Ask your ortho question again on Adults with

Braces Yahoo group. I think there is someone there who's dealing

with UPenn and is very, very pleased with her treatment. But I'm a

ways from you geographically, and totally capable of having mixed up

Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, alas... As, I'm hoping you are, of

confusing Montgomery and Mobile!
