Guest guest
Hi all, I've been away from the board on purpose. (No offense; I just don't like to dwell on the recovery part). My recovery has been uneventful (Lefort I and BSSO). I've had a little tiny bit of relapse, which sorry, folks, is perfectly normal. My OS overcompensated on purpose to allow for this, so my bite looks fine. I'm still loosely banded with four elastics in triangle shapes. I remove them when I eat and brush. I can open my mouth 1 finger width. My OS is not conservative when it comes to keeping your jaws totally immobilized after surgery. His theory is the sooner you stretch those muscles and elongate them, the better, so I've been opening and stretching since week 3. I'm still eating mushy foods--no chewing at all. I absolutely can't wait to chew. My next OS appt is end of next week and he'll let me know then if I'm good to go as far as chewing goes. Hope he says yes! My only concern is the numbness. I don't have any zaps or zings or tinglies at all. My cheeks have some sensation when I run my finger across them, my nose is fine, my upper lip has a little bit of feeling, my lower lip is completely numb and so is my chin. This bugs me the most, because it's difficult to talk clearly when you can't feel your lower lip, not to mention drink from a cup! Oh well...I'm being patient. Oh, I do get weird spasms when I sleep only. My first appt with my orthodontist post surgery was great. I had a huge headache from lack of sleep (still can't sleep without help) and I was a little depressed. Anyway, he told me the cosmetic results were fantastic. Everyone there gave me huge compliments. One of the assts showed me my pre-surgical computer pics and said, " Before all you saw was your chin, now you notice your eyes. " I was really flattered. That felt good. Well, sorry so long. Hope everyone is healing fine and I'll try to post more soon. Becky
Guest guest
Becky, Glad to see you back. It's really too early to tell anything about the numbness. As you know, everyone is different and from the latest posts, some have said that it could take 5-7 years (hopefully none of us will take that long). Glad your eyes are noticeable now. :-) I thought that was great. LOL! Happy healing, Smooches 6 week update Hi all, I've been away from the board on purpose.
