Guest guest
in the clinic they used a solution of essential oils in therapeutic strength called FreshEssence mouthwash. It was researched at Weber State University to kill the germs, viruses, bacteria and fungi that cause gum or mouth problems. It can be used as a gargle, mouth wash, diluted in a water pik, or put in a spray for sore throats. It helps a lot. Plus it has no chemicals, can be uses with medication or by itself. for my kids, we use a cream like TenderTush or Rose Ointment after applying a drop of pure lavender (don't use lavadin or it makes it worse) or Melrose. wash with Morning Start bathgel to control the germs that spread other places. canker sores are from a dormant virus so the immune system needs support as well to keep further outbreaks in check. There are several helpful supplements to nutritionally support immune function. Just be sure they are not cheap ones off the shelf that have impure additives or you are wasting your money. Guest guest
Hi ! Thanks for the advice! This is only the second time I get a canker sore (actually I think it made a friend because I looks like there's two of them there now) And it's especially painful since I had my jaw surgery recently and it (they) decided to put up camp in my upper left cheek right near some stitches. Take care! Guest guest
my doctor told me to mix equal parts maalox with antihistimine (liquid allergy medicine). I got both in cherry flavor. It didn't taste bad and it did the trick. It numbs the pain, coats it, which helps it heal. aileen --- ceast36532 no_reply > wrote: --------------------------------- Some folks have sworn by swishing around Maalox or Milk of Magnesia (and some dilute it with ingestible Benedryl). Guest guest
I've just started using 'kenalog in orabase' for a canker sore I had. It's a sort of liquid you need to apply directly on the cancer sore. Mine went away really quickly! Guest guest
" Neosporin + Pain " worked wonders for me. Smooches Canker sores Hi! Anyone have any good ways to reduce canker sores or at least reduce the pain? I usually rinse with warm water and salt and/or with Peridex mouthwash. I use Anbesol for the pain also. Any other suggestions? Love always, Johanne

Guest guest
Thanks Nathalie! I got some Peroxyl mouthwash (made by Colgate) today. The manager at work uses it and loves it. My ortho said it's a good mouthwash for canker sores and brace irritation. He asked if I still had some of my Peridex and I told him I still had a little and he told me it was good for canker sores also (doesn't ease the pain, but helsp them disappear more quickly) > > > > > > Hi! > > > > > > Anyone have any good ways to reduce canker sores or > > at least reduce > > > the pain? > > > > > > I usually rinse with warm water and salt and/or with > > Peridex > > > mouthwash. Guest guest
Hey Blake; My daughter did not get canker sores but did develope some sort of strange inflamation and we feel that the neosporin did more to hinder the healing then help. I hear that just keeping vasaline or aquaphor on the mouth helps keep things moist and comfortable. The lips and mouth can get a little sore following the surgery. You know, it could be something related to stress and the immune system getting a little weak from the surgery. That's a good thought. Take Care
Guest guest
Although I know no science to support what I'm saying, I believe it does indeed have to do with the stress (and perhaps the steroids, as well) We know that canker sores (fever blisters) are a form of the herpes virus. I know that I didn't have them, but did develop shingles (also a form of herpes -- neither is the genital type) not quite two months out of surgery. It was, in addition to surgery recovery, a time of great stress for me, and I will always believe I was exposed to a kid either recovering from or contracting chicken pox (another, similar form of herpes) in an EENT office where I spent several hours with many germy little ones swarming. I think my resistance was low, and that it was no wonder at all. I believe that steroids can also weaken the immune response, although I am ready to be corrected by anybody who knows more than I do on the subject. Guest guest
Are we talking about canker sores (mouth ulcers) or cold sores (blisters on your lips)? Cold sores are caused by herpies simplex virus, and happen usually around the lips or just inside the mouth. Abbreva helps greatly, but it's expensive. I think there's another one like it on the market, but I don't personally know anyone who's used it. Canker sores can be caused by biting or rubbing the lining of your mouth (like the rough edge of a filling or your braces), eating too many acidic foods (my ortho says his patients get a bumper crop of canker sores during tomato season), stress, being run down by illness, or allergic reactions (I knew someone who got them from Nutrasweet). They can be anywhere inside your mouth. I've even gotten them on and under my tongue, and once at the top of my throat, so that it stretched every time I swallowed. Ouch! There are Benzocaine products on the market to cover and heal them, but they tend to really, really sting when you first put them on. My 14- year-old nephew gets them all over his mouth from chemotherapy. His mom puts ten drops of myrrh into water and has him swish it around. He says it stings like mad, but the canker sores go away by the next day. Don't ask me where you get myrrh, I have no idea. Kris
Guest guest
Right on Kris. Do not use medication for cold sores when you have canker sores, that won't help! I get canker sores quickly, for example when I go to the dentist. My mother also gets them quickly, maybe it's hereditary. But like you said, canker sores are not some sort of virus that is transmissible. Guest guest
Memetruan, I never knew that, but it worked wonders for me. The sides of my lips were cracked so badly that they were long open wounds and hurt like the dickens. I used Neosporin and I don't even have any scars. Smooches canker sores I was told that neosporin is a no-no around the mouth. I even called the 800 # on the tube and they said its not suppose to be used around the mouth. Also Dermo said so too. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
