Guest guest Posted January 26, 2004 Report Share Posted January 26, 2004 I just heard my surgery date today! It's March 18th 2004 (any surgery buddies??). I'm going to have a SARPE and lower advancement done in one time (!) which I never expected. I think I'm one of the few that are going to be in braces for less than one month, then have both surgeries and after that my ortho's going to adjust my teeth and expand my palate (normally the ortho adjusts the teeth first and you have the SARPE and then after about a year, you have the jaw surgery). We decided on going this way because my surgeon suggested it today (I didn't even know that that was possible!) . It will save me the trip of going to Venezuela twice. I am excited and a little nervous but I trust my surgeon Dr. Guerrero, who is 'one of the foremost authorities of distraction osteogenesis (like SARPE)'. http://www.atlantaoralsurgery.com/atlanta/Procedure/distraction/ I'm so glad I will get it all 'over with' so quickly and I don't have time to get completely freaked out about it (well...I'll still freak out probably). Going at it this way will mean that my surgeon needs to make very accurate estimations on when my teeth will be when they are correct and it requires more work for my ortho because it requires more fine tuning with bands.
