Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, Don't go away - the board needs people with good knowledge like you to dispel some of the more common myths out there. I share your frustrations too at times. For my part, when I get a chance, I'll update the geocities site with some information regarding use of Boost/Ensure, and dairy products. If you want to send me anything formal, I'd be glad to post it, otherwise I'll just pull your posts on the topic if that's ok with you. As I've said on the geocities info site: " everything you see here is a suggestion only, based on others' experiences. Everyone's experience is a little different. You use this advice at your own risk. You should discuss important issues with your orthodontist and oral surgeon. That's what you pay them the big bucks for. " Cheryl, I think you've still got lots to offer this group. Don't go! > I am in no way the OSS Board police. Guest guest
Cheryl, you always give good advice, and especially on the area of your professional expertise, nutrition. I sorry if I started this all off. I do think I said that I have heard it suggested that Boost or Ensure could contribute to the skin problems post op, and I have, but heaven knows I don't know anything like as much as you do about all this. And I agree with you that we should be careful, both in stating things, and in evaluating other posts, to distinguish between facts and opinions. I can tell you that I have seen someone healing after radiation treatment, who was nourished entirely by Ensure and Boost for some months, and without them, could not have survived. And I think the very best advice of all is what you say at the end. Your doc is your own best source of info. Best -- and don't go 'way, please! Cammie > I am in no way the OSS Board police. Guest guest
Hi Ladies, I'm not really going anywhere, just cranky today. There's a big difference between saying " I have heard it suggested that.... " and depicting some inane fact as if it were gospel. I just want the rest of the Board to fully understand that not everything reperesented here on the Board is indeed, fact. There is a place here for opinions. They just need to be presented as such. I usually let the drivel which sometimes shows up here and is passed off as fact go right by me, but this time I felt that it could endanger someone. Being wired shut is no picnic and should be treated with respect. I've seen some pretty malnourished souls who thought they could survive on water, soups and smoothies end up in the hospital ICU. Six weeks is far too long to go without proper supplementation. I love what wrote. Even if supplements do cause acne (which they clearly don't unless one has a diagnosed food allergy) it's a small price to pay and far preferable to protein-calorie malnutrition. Sorry if I over-reacted. It's been a long couple of weeks. Still love you both! Cheryl
Guest guest
Sorry you're feeling cranky, but everybody's entitled, I think, to a few cranky days now and then! Glad to hear you're not going anywhere! Cammie > Hi Ladies, > > I'm not really going anywhere, just cranky today. > > There's a big difference between saying " I have heard it suggested > that.... Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, I have my cranky days too, rarely am I able to stay away from people and computers, though, and it sometimes gets me into trouble. I just figured that a can of Ensure was giving me the basics, and anything after that was a plus in terms of nutrition. If I couldn't manage anything more, at least I'd done myself that one good thing. Plus, my surgeon gave me a big stack of buy-one-get-one-free coupons that were about to expire, hard to refuse for a beancounter like me (aka the nutcase who celebrated her one-year anniversary with a half day fast and a can of chocolate Ensure) > Hi Ladies, > > I'm not really going anywhere, just cranky today. > > There's a big difference between saying " I have heard it suggested > that....
