Guest guest
Hi , I had upper/lower/genio and flew from Toronto to the UK on business at 11 weeks post-op. I had no problems - my biggest concern was whether or not I'd be able to open wide enough to " pop " my eardrums on take-off and landing, but it wasn't an issue (I seemed to be able to handle it with my limited opening and swallowing). My biggest disappointment was not setting off the xray machinery at the airport : ) Personally, I wouldn't have travelled any earlier because of the type of food I was capable of eating (cleared by my surgeon to attempt anything, but reality is always a surprise!), but others have travelled sooner than that. My advice is to clear it with your surgeon if you do travel early on in your recovery, and to ensure you are physically up to it. Travel can be exhausting, especially when you're crossing time zones as I did, and if you add on the fatigue one normally has post-op, it's a challenge. Good luck! Guest guest
I had upper + lower and I flew from the midwest to the northeast one week after surgery. Drooling was my biggest problem but I also had more ear pressure than usual during my flight (just had to try to swallow). Then again I lost a little bit of hearing in one of my ears right after surgery (which the doc said was normal). The hearing came back 1-2 days later. The best way to combat drooling is try your best to breath through your nose and close yourmouth (hard to do since your lips are swollen & num). > Any recommendations or cautions about flying postop? I'm a little > nervous as I usually have some kind of sinus/ear pressure when I fly > anyway. I had mandibular and maxillary osteotomies (upper and lower) > and am three weeks postop. I'm trying to plan a trip, but am a little > uncertain about the air travel. Your thoughts are appreciated. > Thanks.
