Guest guest
Hi , It's been forever since I posted, I am post-op and in June of this year it will be 2 years. I had upper , lower and genio and, like you I still have quite a bit of numbness in my chin and the left side of my lower lip , which really bugs me. I have some feeling but it is kind of tingly and weird feeling. And inside my mouth in the lower gum area I have really weird sharp stabbing pains when I get my teeth cleaned or whatever... It's a good sign that you can feel some sensations. The way it was explained to me, the nerves are all mixed up and that's why the feeling is weird.. But, I am still told that you could wake up one day and it will all be normal... I may be a fool, but I am still holding out some hope that my situation will imporve. Every time I even begin to have second thoughts about my surgery, I just have to remind myself to look at the before and after pics .... I have forgotten what I used to look like and how awful it was not being able to close my mouth or bite properly... You definitely are not alone in the sensations you are feeling. Hope my comments can be of some help. in Encinitas... (my pics are under " lindas " .. fyi -- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " Abramson " wrote: > Well, I am coming up on 11 months now and I still have numbness in > my chin, part of my lower lip and a spot on my cheek. Guest guest
Hi! I just moved recently (July 03)to Carlsbad Ca... yes, you are so right, this surgery is not without side effects. But from my experience, well worth it, regardless. Where did you have your surgery? Guest guest
Six months is still really early for diagnosing perm numbness. I am 2 years post op and I am almost 95% however yesterday my chin and lips went hot and super sensitive so I know the nerves are still growing back together. Healing isn't done overnight;) Shiloh

Guest guest
Hi : I know exactly what you mean. I am now just past 3 months and my lower lip and chin still feels numb and swollen. However, my surgeon had me close my eyes and he touched places with a Q-tip and I could feel everywhere he touched. He explained that numbness is like a recipe, if one part is missing then it will not feel normal. He went on to explain that the transmission of the signal from the lip to the brain is slower than normal, because it has not fully healed. I hope this is the case and I guess it just takes time. He also gave me a two point numb test where he touched various places to see if I could determine if it was one point or two from what looked like a set of tweezers. He said my threshold was around 6 and 5 was normal. I have no idea what that means, so that's when he explained it with the recipe analysis Good Luck with yours.
