Call your surgeons office in the morning, and let them know about the sores. They can direct you on what to do. (my guess is that they will ask you to rinse out your mouth with salt water) Also can you tell if your braces or wires are catching onto the inside of your mouth. If that is the case some wax might help. Hope this helps. Get some wax also to help with chaffing on your cheeks. Guest guest Posted December 1, 2003 Report Share Posted December 1, 2003 I tend to be prone to these sores, especially when I bite my lip, and I've found that zilactin works pretty well if you put it on as soon as you notice the sore developing. There's different types of zilactin, just get the plain original version with benzyl alcohol. I think the alcohol acts as a disinfectant/antibiotic; with the zilactin my sores go away in a few days vs. a couple weeks without (but only if you start it early enough). Also check to see if you have a wire or bracket poking the sore. If you do, you should cover it with wax so the sore can heal. Guest guest Posted December 1, 2003 Report Share Posted December 1, 2003 A couple more pretty standard recommendations: Amosan mouthwash. A blend of Mylanta (or Milk of Magnesia) and Benedryl liquid. Swish. I think this has to do with reducing the level of acidity in the mouth... Good luck to you. That's not any fun, for sure.
