Guest guest
No one is dumping on Cammie, Cammie and have saved this board on more than one occasion, and are essentially performing the owner/moderator's functions without receiving any of the glory or recognition. Cammie has never failed to provide information and unflagging support with wit, wisdom and utmost generosity of spirit. Still, we all have had not-so-great days and moments we wish we could have back. I could never presume to speak for Cammie, but I can and will attest to her kindness and dedication to this board. Even though I might disagree with something she has said, and visa- versa, it doesn't mean that either of us have lost one ounce of respect and caring for the other. Boards, like all relationships, are subject to the hiccups that come from miscommunication or misunderstandings. It should go without saying that there are never any hard feelings intended. Guest guest
Dear, Dear Friends, one and all, And of course that includes Fiddly and Cheryl, whom I thank most heartily for their kind words in my behalf... It also includes Missy and and whoever else I may have offended, for I do consider you all friends, and honestly wouldn't consciously condescend to, for, or at any of you. Sheesh! I wish I hadn't posted at all! I'd rather that than have hurt any of your feelings. I do remember all the to-do about Tom Cruise and some others, and honestly thought that was pretty silly, too. If there's a lesson in it, for me, anyhow, it's that even folks who make their livelihoods with their appearances can be secure enough in their abilities and their self-security to decide what they do and don't need, and that braces are not so big a bugabear that they avoid getting the help they need. That's my take. Nevertheless... I do understand the hesitation to wear braces. I didn't like them nor want them at all... Not the look, not the feel, not the expense, not anything about them. Not the first time, and not the second. I did understand that I needed to do it, and so I did it. I do think, after a week or so of wearing them, most of us figure out that the look isn't important, and is not noticed by most other people. Or if they do notice, they don't care. And that's pretty much of a relief. I am in total sympathy with all considering such a project from every angle. Even with those who choose lingual brackets, which I would think would be a particular kind of hell. For those who wanted them, though, they have worked fine and provided a better experience than the alternative. I have no bone to pick with that. As for making a choice of what to get, may I offer one suggestion? Talk openly with your orthodontist about your concerns, and ask to meet one or more of his patients who is wearing each kind, and talk with them about their choices and how they reached them, as well as their level of satisfaction. Not only will that give you a more personalized sense of what you may get, but you can hear about the choices from the patient's point of view. And hey -- if ceramic, clear, metal, lingual, Invisalign, Damons, gold or whatever, are the choice for you, so be it! I hope they will do your job, and that you'll be pleased with your choice. Guest guest
Hi , My daughter is having a LeFot ! Advance on Dec 10th. For 4 years she had ceramic braces. Their were marvelous because she performs a lot and where not noticable from an audience perspective. Then she had the braces off for 2 years and her lower jaw out grew her upper. After all the consultations with many orthos and OS's she had braces put back on in May of this year. She could not have ceramic on this time because she was going to go through many fast changes and the ceramic do not hold up to stress. The OS also said he preferred her tohave metal because they go through the stress of the banded better after surgery. Hope this hleps some. Juli Re: CNN Correspondent Wearing Ceramic Braces? Hi , I think your curiosity about ceramic braces is fine on this forum. I was worried about the appearance of the braces also. I got the porcelain (ceramic) on the top & bottom and am glad that I did. For me, having orthognathic surgery was both cosmetic & functional. I had an open bite and could not chew very well and was also always breathing through my mouth and suffering from constant headaches. Cosmetically I just did not like the way the open bite looked and couldn't wait to fix it. I had my surgery on Oct. 27 and things went fine for me. Good luck to you
