I had upper/lower/genio (had an easy recovery, no issues) and was off

work for 5 weeks. Went back and did some major overtime work in week

6 (about 3 14-hour days, which I can normally do no problem). By the

end of the week, I was shocked to find myself trembly and weak, the

first time I ever physically realized what stress can do to the body.

I felt my speech become more " drunk " sounding, it required greater

effort. When I got home I realized that my mouth had swelled up

inside. It took about 3 days of rest and relaxation to get back to

work.

I tried to minimize the amount of talking I did at work because I

found it so tiring.

Suggestions for swelling:

1) Homeopathic remedies (these are not herbal remedies - I suggest

consulting a registered homeopath rather than taking off-the-shelf

remedies)

2) MLD therapy (you can read about this on the geocities site at

http://www.geocities.com/orthognathicinfo click on MLD in the

lefthand sidebar

I did both of the above and had excellent results. We could see

immediate reduction in swelling after just one session of MLD

therapy. Both homeopath and MLD therapist said it is never too late

to try either method. Both are intended as " kickstarts " for your

body's healing mechanisms.

Hope that helps.

I am 4 weeks post op today, and still swollen. And yes, my swelling

increases throughout the day, but seems especially noticable in the

morning. I saw my os today and he said this was normal, especially

the night thing. He said I'm not moving as much and things kind of

pool up in there. As for the swelling in the day, he felt that was

from any talking I was doing, and suggested a round of motrin during

the day. I hear you, it's a real pain to deal with swelling when

surgery was a month ago.. According to my os, it will be another

month before I see a big difference. Alix
