Guest guest
Hi. What did you have done? (Upper, lower, etc)... Is your mouth banded? If so, then isn't your TMJ's immobile? > Did anyone else experience bad headaches post-op? I'm three weeks out > and for the past few days I've been having headaches daily. Guest guest
I had upper (Le Fort I to move my jaw up) with palatal expansion, and they also moved my chin out. I was only banded overnight in the hospital, so my jaw is relatively free moving. I don't have elastics or anything yet.... > > Did anyone else experience bad headaches post-op? Guest guest
I'm still pre-op, but before I started TMJ treatment I used to wake up with terrible headaches at night. They were so bad that I physically could not move my head. I had to lift it with my hands and turn it to the side so I could roll over, and then the tension would drain away and I'd be all right. Don't know if this is the kind of headache you're having. If it is, you might be clenching your teeth in your sleep. That stresses the muscle that runs across the back of your head from ear to ear. Before I started orthodontic treatment, not sleeping on my back was the only way for me to prevent the headaches. Some other guesses - stress and tension, sinus trouble, withdrawal of some sort (did you drink a lot of caffiene before surgery, and stop after? Did you stop smoking for the surgery?), or maybe you're sleeping laying flat and sitting up might help? Hope they go away soon. Kris > Did anyone else experience bad headaches post-op? Guest guest
Oh yes! The dreaded Caffeine withdraw! :-( That's going to suck! > > Did anyone else experience bad headaches post-op? Guest guest
Hi Kris, That sounds terrible, and much worse than what I've been experiencing! I did clench my teeth during my sleep pre-op but I hope I'm not still doing it. It's definitely not caffeine withdrawal because I stopped drinking caffeinated beverages a long time ago (caffeine makes me dizzy). I sure do miss iced tea! Never did smoke. Sleep position could be a factor, though I've been having headaches during the day too. I'm back to sleeping flat and on my side, though I'm trying hard not to bury my face in the pillow because I worry about doing damage to my upper jaw by putting too much pressure on it. Maybe I should try sleeping on my back again for awhile (boo!). Thanks for your reply and suggestions! Beth > > Did anyone else experience bad headaches post-op?
