Hi Girls,

I am having lower advancement only. Sounds relatively easy but

since I am 50 I hope I heal as fast as everyone else. I already had

my flu shot, pre-surgical check-up with blood work and EKG, and I

have my pre-surgical ortho visit getting fitted for the new splint,

and hooks and wires on November 27th. I can't quite believe this is

finally happening. I am using Purell hand sanitizer all the time, we

can't catch a cold now can we? I have 20 young piano students coming

in the door all week, coughing, sniffing etc. Johanne, if I remember

correctly, aren't you in Montreal? I am in Calgary.

Hi Kathleen!

Yay! Another canadian :) Yup, I live in Montreal.

I was suppose to have only lower advancement, but apparently that's

too simple for my surgeon - so he's decided to expand my palate also.

I didn't want him to touch my upper jaw since I have asthma and sinus

problems and the less congestion I have - the better. Actually, my

ortho is the one who thought I should have my palate widened. He

wants everything to be perfect. I told him I wasn't perfect so I see

no reason why my mouth should be. I don't think he gets my sense of

humour :) He teaches classes at McGill University, and he's been

showing the students pictures of my mouth's quest towards semi-

perfection, so he can't screw up :)

I'll be getting my surgical hooks on Dec 2nd and going to my pre-op

appointment on Dec 3rd.

Keep in touch!

So you're my sister... I had lower advancement at age 56, if that

makes you feel better.. I have an easy time of recovery. No wiring,

no bands, lots of liquid food and very, very careful eating until my

surgeon told me I could do otherwise...

I am in lower Alabama, USA, but I had no numbness, no troubles

healing, little swelling, lots of bruising, great healing. I hope you

will have something similar.

You may, or may not, find that your breathing is soooo much better,

after surgery. Some folks do -- and I hope you will, too!

Thanks Cammie!

I'd be so glad if my breathing improved. But as long as it doesn't

worsen - I'll be happy.

I had/have chronic sinus and allergy problems and had both upper and

lower jaws brought forward 6 1/2 weeks ago. Even with the congestion

after surgery, I could breathe better than I could before surgery,

except for a few hours when things got really bad on the 4th day but I

spent a lot of time sitting on a chair in my shower and was much better

by the end of the day.

I'm still battling allergy-induced sniffles but I can still breathe

just fine. I have very mild asthma and was fine after surgery- though

I did stay on Sudafed, Flonase, and my allergy medicines for quite a

while (am still on the allergy meds and Flonase). Since I wasn't

allowed to blow my nose until this week, the medicines really helped

things stay good and clear.

I think it's pretty standard for them to clean out the sinuses a bit

when they do the upper jaw surgery. I specifically asked my surgeon to

" hose them down really well " while he was in there.

Good luck.

Hi !

I was planning on taking my allergy medication and I have a

humidifier and an air purifier, so I should be okay even if my

sinuses do decide to act up one way or the other. I'm seeing my

family doctor a few days before surgery, so I'll see what he has to

say also.

I'm glad your sinuses have improved since your surgery.

Hopefully I'll be as lucky.

Happy healing!
