Guest guest
Hey again! I had the wires cut off my teeth last week, and now I have to wear rubber bands to keep my teeth together (22 hours a day). The only time I can take them off is to eat or brush. My surgeon told me that he's not ready for me to start chewing yet. The space between my teeth is about half an inch. I can get a baby spoon and a straw between my teeth now. I was told to keep eating my " mush. " I am really sick of sucking stuff through a straw, etc. It is sometimes uncomfortable to eat with a spoon because it feels like I am trying to chew. Even if I just put the food in my mouth and swallow, I still feel like I am doing the " open and close " of my mouth too much. I was just wondering if any of you have had this experience or are going through this. Is it safe to eat with a baby spoon at 4 weeks post-op from two jaw surgery?? What would you suggest? I don't want to hurt my jaw or do something that is going to mess things up. Thanks to everyone who responds!! God bless! Sincerely,
Guest guest
Hi , First all congrats on gettng the wires cut. I had lower jaw surgery only, and I did eat with a spoon around 3rd or 4th week. What I did sometimes was imagine that I was chewing eventhough I wasn't physically chewing and only using my tongue to coax the mush down my palate. Apparently, according to my therapist, this 'imagination' helps the gain muscle deterity as the nerves will engage without moving the muscle. Btw, I am just over 9 months post-op and also had my braces off a few weeks ago. I have to say that all is pretty cool. good luck on > Hey again! Guest guest
Hey , I had surgery on my upper and lower jaws. I started using a spoon to eat around my 2nd week. It was okay as long as I did not chew. I found using a baby spoon was much easier then regular spoons. So, try it out, and enjoy. Wishing you all the best!
