Guest guest
hey guys, i'm 4 days post op today! feels wierd saying that, i've been reading messages from " post-oppers " on this site for months... and now i'm one of them! i had lower jaw surgery to correct my underbite on monday. I was allowed to come home for the first time yesterday (thursday). i feel fine, but I'm getting really impatient with my swelling, its huge!! i look like gwynneth paltrow in her fat suit on that film, Shallow Hal! Of the whole surgery experience, the worst bit is looking in the mirror. being a 17 year old girl im pretty bothered about my appearance. I've taken to wearing a scarf wrapped around my face like ce of Arabia. i'm just worried now that the swellings never goin to go away. I've woken up every morning this week and put my hands to my face to feel if its gone down... but it hasn't! not one bit! I've got until the end of february to get back to my normal self to go back to school, what can i do to encourage the swelling to go down?! for now, ill just focus on the good things... like the weight loss! my stomach is definetely flattening out! yeh baby! (but i'd KILL for a big mac!) AND my new bite! i cant beleive my underbite/big chin is a thing of the past! please message back guys, if any of you are/were in similar positions. love sara x
Guest guest
My surgeon always told me the swelling would peak around day three post-op for all of the various procedures he's performed for me (we're at four and will move on to five at some point in the hopefully distant future). At any rate, that you're four days post- op and still quite swollen is absolutely normal. If I remember correctly, my surgeon had me using ice for the first few days and that I was permitted to use moist heat also. I never found the latter did all that much, but the ice felt great and may help with your swelling. You should begin to see all the swelling decrease quite rapidly within the next week. Remember also that there is more swelling with upper and lower than with lower alone. Not sure what specific procedures you had done, but the more that is done, the more there is to heal, thus the more the body reacts by swelling. Hang in there and don't get too homicidal over the Big Mac! > hey guys, i'm 4 days post op today! feels wierd saying that, i've > been reading messages from " post-oppers " on this site for months... > and now i'm one of them! > > i had lower jaw surgery to correct my underbite on monday. Guest guest
Never fear, Sara...the swelling WILL go down. I looked like Professor Klump from day 1 up until about day 5. Then I started looking like Professor Klump on a diet. LOL! By week 4, I looked semi-normal and by week 7, I could smile again. Today marks week 14 for me and I'm still a little swollen (more so on the left side than the right), but normally, I don't have much swelling at all left...at least none that is truly noticeable from those who don't know me. Hang in there...it WILL get better. I actually have to look back at pictures to see what I looked like before. I'm very happy with my results. Oh, and about the " Shallow Hal " look, as long as you don't develop " cankles " , you'll be fine. LOL! Smooches 4 days post op!
