Guest guest
OK, it's official now. I was told a month ago that I needed orthognathic surgery and have spent the last 30 days trying to decide what I was going to do about it. Well yesterday I had my " records " appointment at my orthodontists office and I have an appointment scheduled with an oral surgeon on April 5th so I guess that means that I'm going through with it! I have a 10 mm overbite and also a crossbite and my ortho is recommending a splint for 2 months (don't quite understand what that things going to do yet), then top braces and four months after that bottom braces. After 10-12 months I should be ready for surgery. Total treatment time is supposed to be three years. There was a young girl getting her final retainer at the ortho's office yesterday and all I could think about was that I wanted to be her! (yes, I'm whining!) I am however very happy with the doctor's that I've found. My ortho has a very good reputation in town and my oral surgeon is the Chief of Dentistry at UC San Francisco and has been doing these surgeries for 30 years. I'm going to be in good hands! My ortho is recommending bottom only and I'm really, really, really hoping that my oral surgeon agrees with him because, no offense to all of you folks out there who've had the upper done also, but it's a little gruesome sounding to me! Gotta go. Happy Healing! Sue
