Guest guest
Hey people...sorry, I just need to let out a little frustration right now. As many of you know, I've gone back to school and have been doing pretty well with it. Anyway, my surgery was 30 October 03 which was right at the end of last quarter. Two quarters prior to my surgery, I began telling the administrators and the teachers that I would be having surgery. I was told to just keep them informed of my progress and what all was happening and they would work with me on this. When it came time for the quarter in which my surgery would be done, I had debated on whether or not to go that quarter, but realized (after talking to teachers and administrators) that my surgery would not be until the very end of the quarter and I would only miss 2 weeks. Anyway, to make a long story short, I missed the last 2 weeks of class. I was taking 3 classes per week on campus (45-minute drive one-way) and one online course. In one class, there was no final exam, but the instructor allowed me to do my final project early, thus finishing the course early and getting full credit. The second class instructor allowed me to take my final early, again finishing the course with full credit. My online class was not affected (I finished it during recovery). In the last class, I could not take the final exam early, but the instructor arranged with the program director to give me an " incomplete " and allow me to take the final this sometime during this quarter. Well, I emailed my instructor 2 weeks ago to find out when I needed to take the final and she didn't know, but told me I needed to talk to the registrar. My classes are at night and the registrar was not there. I went to class early last week to talk to the registrar and, again, she was not there. Finally, I went to the program director last night to find out when I needed to take the final from last quarter. He told me, " You needed to take it by week 6 - this is week 7 " . To make matters even worse, he pulled out my transcript and program course record and I saw they hadn't given me an " incomplete " but had given me an " F " in the class! I was livid! I'm a straight " A " student! He told me that what they did was give me the grade I would have gotten if I had not taken the final! There is no way I could have gotten an " F " even without taking the final unless that final was 100% of the grade! The lowest score I've every made was a " 92 " in the class and that was only once...the rest were " 100's " ! We went to see the dean and he told me that I could take the final and get it changed, but I had to take it " now " (huh?! - are you kidding me!?!). Well, I took the final, which was disastrous. My instructor was livid because she said that was NOT what she had submitted for me and could not understand how they could give me an " F " in her class. She went to talk to them also. The final is actually a 2-part thing...written and lab. I have to go in this afternoon (leaving as soon as I post this) to take the lab part. I couldn't take it last night because each part takes a good 2-3 hours to do, but I have to have it done BEFORE Friday and I have another class tonight - what a crock!! Sorry...didn't mean to vent on something totally off the subject, but I am really upset about this. Thanx for listening. Smooches
Guest guest
Hi Smooches, I'm sorry they're giving you such a hard time. It always amazes me how insensitive administrators, professors and people in general can be. My husband received a bad grade because he missed a class the day I was being induced with our first daughter. When he tried to talk to the professor all she said was " Well, it was your wife having the baby, not you. " She never budged and actually gave him an extra assignment in addition to the one he had to make up. I certainly hope you have better luck especially since the instructer is on your side. Vent away! > Hey people...sorry, I just need to let out a little frustration right now. > > As many of you know, I've gone back to school and have been doing pretty well with it.
