Guest guest
Hi Tori I had surgery 4 months ago for an underbite and had the lower jaw moved back and the top jaw moved forward by removing and replating back. You ask about pain, the hospital give you painkillers and morphine if necessary, I personally didnt have this just the normal painkillers, because of the swelling by the time this reduces down to your face the pain has gone from the surgery. Try not to worry about the pain I found amazingly there was none, just lots of funny feelings going around your face. Good luck it will be fine. > Hey there, > My surgery is on the countdown now.....around one month left. Next > week i go give blood and the week after that is spring break. Guest guest
Hey Tori, I had my wisdom teeth taken out last year..all 4..it's not that bad..you're going to swell up like a chipmunk but thats about it. My friend got them out and ate chicken dinner that night..It really is different for everyone. I just had my jaw broken 2 weeks ago today..I arrived at the hospital around 7am..and I was terrified..I didnt know what to expect..how much pain I'd be in..so on and so on..I cried soooo much before the surgery, Anyways I got my little gown I had to wear and they gave me a little pill called adavan..it relaxes you..and it did relax me, but i was still scared..anyways..it was time for my surgery..they wheeled me in the surgery room and put the gas mask on me and i dont remember anything after that...when i woke up i was like blaaah..I wasnt in any pain..just dizzy and I had to pee so bad..hah..I didnt remember my friends visiting me the next day..it was weird..I remember there were ice packs all bandaged around my face..which felt nice..when I looked in the mirror i was like man..I felt so ugly..but of course you're going to be swollen after having your jaw Broken ..ya know. The first 2 days..I didnt even wanna get up cause everytime I did I'd have a nose bleed. But that only lasted for for a couple days..I had one big bruise on the left side of my cheek cause they did more work on the left side of my mouth..but if ya keep the ice packs on..the swelling will go down so much..Like it's been two weeks and everyone says I'm almost back to normal..which is good cause the swelling makes me feel so ugly. But really, I found there was absolutely no pain..I just get so frustrated..the diet is the hardest..especially if you're like me..all you eat is pizza, chicken, poutines..lol and then all u can eat is soup and milkshakes..my mom tried blending kraft dinner and stuff, but the look of it made me gag..so that didnt work..I just cant wait to eat a piece of pizza !!! I have a couple more weeks to go..at first I was like " why did I do this..if i could turn back time..I would.. " but really it's not that bad..it's a few weeks in my whole life i have to deal with thats gonna be an awesome outcome in the end..so im doing alright..I just cant wait til it's done and over with..anyways if ya have anything else to ask..im all ears..ha, later. Guest guest
Hi Tori I'm just recovering from having upper jaw surgery 2 weeks ago. I'd had my wisdom teeth out a couple of years ago in preparation for my op. Re my operation details as follows:- went to hospital, they gave me a mouthwash to rinse a couple minutes before the op, the anesthesiologist then came in and put a needle in my arm with whatever it takes to knock you out, then i was wheeled into the OR and i cannot remember anything after that and i woke up in the hospital ward. I was really groggy that day and i had no tubes or anything in me when i woke up i was just banded shut with elastic bands on the front and I had a drip. I wasn't able to get any sleep that night, but i think thats just me. I had no pain after the operation at all and have had none since and thats a couple of weeks, so i didn't or haven't needed any pain medication. I had antibiotics in the hospital and for a few days afterwards. My head felt really huge and my face has been numb from the tip of my nose to the top lips. I've had swelling and bruising on the side of my face but its going down now. I have a splint in, which i'll need in for 6 weeks i guess. I found it difficult eating in the hospital, i wasn't feeling like eating for the first couple of days but it is important to to try and eat or drink fluids. It didn't help that i had nothing to help me eat so I asked for some syringes and that definately helped to get the liquids in at first. I can't say the first few days were great, i didn't feel comfortable at all but there is no pain so you don't have to worry about that and i felt a whole lot better when i got home and not in hospital. Bascially after 5 days i felt much much better and after a couple of weeks i am going back to work so i must be OK!!! The splint affects my speech but i can still speak and it is not on for that much longer so i think i can cope with it as its only a few more weeks to go. I take out the bands to eat now and use a teaspoon and am eating soups, custards, juices, cereals etc with a teaspoon. I lost a little weight but it is coming back up again. so thats it for the moment, hope this has helped a bit. > Hey there, > My surgery is on the countdown now.....around one month left.
