Guest guest
Hi Stacey. It's your surgery buddy here. Happy two weeks post op. I wanted to check in and see how you're recouperating. I'll start with my own update. As you know, I'm a day behind you. I saw my surgeon Monday and he undid my bands so I now only have one on each side. And big surprise -- no splint! My orthodontist had warned me I'd have one but he didn't know what he was talking about. I can open about a finger's width which is enough to eat and talk. When I shower, I do stretching exercises and can almost get to two fingers. My mouth gets tired pretty easily after 10 days of doing nothing. To me, I sound like I'm lisping but no one else seems to hear it. I can eat but he doesn't want me to chew for another week. I can manage because it's such a great surprise to be able to do this at all. Swelling wise, it seems like a whole 'nother face to me and very swollen but I think I'm confusing swelling with numbness. So that's the story in Philadelphia. When you have a chance, let us know how things are in London. Best Wishes, Fran
Guest guest
Hiya, Glad to hear that things are going well for you. As for me i am still progressing well and eating, drinking and speaking are becoming easier each day.My main meal of the day is normally mash potato but i am varying it by havin various sauces on it.At least i am getting a bit of flavour. I am also wearing a band on either side and changin them everytime i clean my teeth which is about 2/3 times a day. i was given some syrringes by my ortho and told to squirt the teeth with salt water to reduce the risk of infection. I can open my mouth about a finger wide . What sort of stretches are you doing.? my ortho never mentioned them to me but i am worried about limited opening so feel i should be doing something to stop the joints from gettin stiff. I was a bit clumsy yesterday and managed to fall down the stairs. my hands automatically reached for my face and i dont think i have done to much damage. just got a very sore bum and back. my swelling is still going down , more slower now but at least i am lookin a bit more " normal " . i have some lower numbness on the right side of my face but i am hopin that will get better soon. wot about u? how are u sleepin? at the moment i am getting about 4/5 maximum. its so hard lyin on ure back. my right side is more swollen than my left and i think thats cos even though i am tryin not 2 i am turnin my face that side 2 lie on. well i hope 2 hear from u soon stace :-)
Guest guest
Not to frighten you, but... First time I went to the surgeon's office after surgery, I met his partner, who had assisted in the surgery. (My guy was off doing the fourth of July with his wife and six!! -- Shiloh and , you have a ways to go to catch up with his record -- kids.) Anyhow I asked several questions about what I could and couldn't do, and the partner said, " Actually, the only way you can really hurt anything is to fall. " I said, " I'm just the person who's likely to do precisely that. " (I have some neurological problems that just make the horizon tilt occasionally, and I go splat.) " No you will not, " he said. " If you think you're gonna fall, just sit down. " Easier said than done, I think, but good advice. Glad you didn't hurt yourself. Cammie > Hiya, > Glad to hear that things are going well for you.
