Guest guest
Hi Sharon, I'm sorry to see you are still fighting! If you have an approval letter in hand, then you have a very good case. Regardless of what the " third party " states, you have a letter from your carrier, the people you send your money to, stating that they have approved the surgery. I would have an attorney fire off a letter--it might cost a chunk of change (I've heard from $250-500, I would think in Ky it would be on the low end)-- but it will probably get you approved. Good luck. By the way, I have just written a very personal appeal letter for myself (different from 's) which I will be happy to send to you if you think if would help. Guest guest
Hi, Sharon, My name is Dinah. I have not been approved yet either, my fight is just beginning for this surgery. But I have had my ins for many years and went thru quite a battle for some major dental work about three years ago. I know that this worked for me. I wrote a very professional sounding letter to the medical review dept. When they turned me down, I was ready, I had the name of the President, CEO of the Insurance Comapny. Blue Cross Blue Shield of AL and I wrote another professional sounding letter to him. Now that got results. After having my bridge rejected three times, the President had someone " look into the matter " and magically it was discovered that maybe they did cover the permenant bridge instead of the partial removable bridge. A difference of about $800. So, my advice to you as a fellow pre-op! Don't give up! Write letters and write letters and write letters. And as for the person who told you to not be so " picky " , I guarantee, if you got her name, you could get her a really good " dressing down " by her supervisor! I work at a doctors office as an insurance clerk and I know that the csr's are not allowed to get " smart " or personal with any subscriber! Hope some of this helps! Keep your chin up and keep fighting! Guest guest
Hey. the last appointment I had with my surgeon... he asked me if my numbness/tingles were worn off.. I said no they arent and he said hmm . I asked if most people have all their feeling back by now, he said yes and that most people get theirs back after 7 months. my surgery was a year ago on Jan 14th.. and I don't have mine even yet. the feeling has changed though, but not for the better. now instead of being numb, it hurts when I poke my chin or my bottom lip.. now that its been so long I don't notice it much, unless I accidentally bump it. hope your feeling comes back soon! amanda PLEASE HELP! Hi everyone! I just found this site. I had the surgery September 3, 2003, and the feeling in my lower lip and chin has not completely come back. It still feels like it did about 1 month post-op and this is starting to seriously worry me. I called my surgeon's office about a month ago and they can't give me any idea when (or if) the feeling will completely return, saying the " everybody's different. " All I wanted to know is if I am out of the ordinary compared to their other patients, but they still wouldn't tell me that. So, I am asking all of you. How long did it take for the feeling to come back? This has been almost 5 months! Thanks!!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guest guest
It can take a lot longer than 5 months for feeling to come completely back, and your surgeon's office is right, everybody's different. The problem is that it's hard to detect some of the subtle healing that goes on, you might not be able to tell, but it's still healing. If you were to draw a line around the affected area, marking it with 100% feeling, 80% feeling, 50% feeling, etc., and then go back and check it in a couple of months time, you'd likely be able to see some change. Patience is the key, unfortunately, and I know, that's not the answer you wanted.

Guest guest
No, I think that's exactly the answer I wanted. I don't care if it takes a year to come back, as long as it does eventually. All I wanted to know if I was out of the ordinary and if other's here have had similar experiences. I don't know anybody that's had the surgery, so I certainly cannot seek help here at home. Thanks so much.

Guest guest
Oh, I am sorry to hear that. I know what you mean about the " differnt feeling. " Mine does hurt if I poke it. I'm sure you'd rather not hear this, but I had this small whitehead ready to go and I couldn't hardly squeeze or otherwise manipulate it because of the pain. It's weird. It's like everything is mostly numb, but the nerves are extra-sensitive. It feels like a million little jolts of electricity go off when I put lip stick or chap stick on. Hopefully you will get yours back. What did the surgeon say other than " hmmm? " > Hey. the last appointment I had with my surgeon... he asked me if my numbness/tingles were worn off.. I said no they arent and he said hmm . I asked if most people have all their feeling back by now, he said yes and that most people get theirs back after 7 months. my surgery was a year ago on Jan 14th.. and I don't have mine even yet. the feeling has changed though, but not for the better. now instead of being numb, it hurts when I poke my chin or my bottom lip.. now that its been so long I don't notice it much, unless I accidentally bump it. hope your feeling comes back soon! > amanda > > PLEASE HELP! > > > Hi everyone!
> It can take a lot longer than 5 months for feeling to come completely > back, and your surgeon's office is right, everybody's different. > > The problem is that it's hard to detect some of the subtle healing > that goes on, you might not be able to tell, but it's still healing. > If you were to draw a line around the affected area, marking it with > 100% feeling, 80% feeling, 50% feeling, etc., and then go back and > check it in a couple of months time, you'd likely be able to see some > change. > > Patience is the key, unfortunately, and I know, that's not the answer > you wanted. >
Guest guest
I'm not saying it will all come back, there's a risk of permanent numbness. I am saying it can take a very long time, and maybe I should have clarified that. I had lower wisdoms removed about 8 years ago (one exploded, one impacted, so the surgeon had to cut into the lower jaw). I had a numb lower lip as a result. I can honestly say that there was change over the 8 year period, although subtle at times. I'm not saying it will take 8 years, but I'll bet that 5 months is not the end of your recovery. My surgeon said 5-7 years for whatever full recovery from numbness that I might get for my upper/lower surgery. That's the most extreme number I've seen on these sites. I'm also seeing a registered homeopath for other things, and her understanding is that the small amount of numbness I had after those 8 years from the wizzie surgery can be recovered 100%, as well as the residual numbness from this surgery (it's almost down to the wizzie stuff). I'm not sure my surgeon would say the same, but I'm willing to spend a small amount of money with the homeopath towards that end. I hope that explains my previous post a bit better. Guest guest
WOW i so feel you on the electric volts.. one of my friends think its awesome to " poke my bottom lip " because i always tell him not to because it " shocks " me. so thats really cool thats how you describe it too.. the surgeon said nothing really after the hmm.. he was on his way out. that makes him sound like a moron and a bad guy w/o time for his patients, but he is really caring, gentle, and i totally like him and trust him. how long was your surgery? are you really excited with your results? when i look at myself dead on in the mirror.. i think i look the same.. from the side its a whole different story, but everyone says NO NO you look so different. I do look a lot younger after my surgery.. now people think i am 16.. i dont really like it, but its okay. also i get the comment that i look a lot happier.. i guess the shape of my face has really changed because everyone used to say i looked pissy.. not that any of that has anything to do with what we were talking about, i just think its cool we had the same stuff , and you describe it the same:) have a good day, amanda -- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " kristenp76 " wrote: > Oh, I am sorry to hear that. Guest guest
Hi! 6 months post-op now and going through exactly the same feelings as you - the electric jolts, tingling, kinda numb but not entirely. How about the really cold feeling when you touch certain areas - d'you have that? I've also still got some numbness on my palate and some of my teeth. I do believe that it will all eventually go back to somewhat normal because there is some sensation. The thing that makes me nuts is that every so ofen I'll realize that it seems a tiny bit better. Then suddenly it gets worse again a couple of days later. My surgeon said it's okay because nerves can act funny when they're re-generating. Anyway, this whole darn thing from beginning to not-quite-end has been a big lesson in the act of being patient! (finding the right surgeon, finding the right orthodontist, getting insurance approval, braces forever, a gazillion long train trips to appointments, changing surgery dates.....then post-surgery is a whole other story.........and I'm still not done!!!!!!!!)
