Open bite/Asymmetry

Hi " group " , I'd appreciate your advice on my situation.

I'm 21 yrs old (female). I have an open bite (that is not very

noticible when I smile) and my left jaw deviates to the right so I

have a facial asymmetry. The orthodontists that I've seen " highly "

recommend jaw surgery, and I'm scheduled to consult an oral surgeon

next week.

Has anyone w/ an anterior open bite and jaw asymmetry had surgery?

What kind of surgery? What did they cut'n'paste? What are the risks

and how long was treatment (my ortho said 1.5 yrs tops) - 6-9 months

braces, surgery, then another 3-6 fine-tuning.

Was it worth it?

Thanks a lot!

Hello,

From someone who had orthognathic surgery and am now struggling through

unbelievable pain and discomfort- a living hell- as my brother (a doctor)

told me( I should have listened):

do not get the surgery done unless you are in pain already. There are too

many risks with the surgery.

I'm sorry you are going through so much pain. How long has it been

since you got the surgery?

The thing is, my " discrepancy " is not even noticible unless you pay

close attention, and even then, it's far from unsightly. I'm not

uncomfortable w/ it. " Functionally " , i might get an ideal results,

as the ortho's insist, but... i dunno...

It has been 10 months post-op. I don't mean to scare you-just to let you

know that it is a possibility. I'm sure that your operation will go well.
