Guest guest
Hi Eileen! I am on day 3 post up (upper & lower) too! I am also having a hard time keeping my nasal passages clear. I've been using a humidifier and I think that has been helping some. I also got a prescription nasal spray (Beconase I think) and that seems to be helping a little as well. I talked to my doc and he said I could also put a little vaseline on a qtip to help keep things 'moist' in there and loosen up the crud. I am hoping the conjestion doesn't last too long! Take care, Britt > Hi. I'm on day 3 post op, and dealing with a significant amont of > nasal swelling and congestion. I am having a hard time clearing the > airway with saline and Qtips. Guest guest
Yeah, I think the humidifier is helping me alot, too. I'll try the valeline up the nose. I was using saline, but I think it was loosening the crud, and then drying somewhere else--not really coming out. Maybe the Vaseline will keep it moist. My doctor never mentioned nasal spray other than saline--I guess because of the rebound swelling if it is used too long. BUT I used Afrin last night, because I was so desperate. It didn't seem to help at all, so I might not use it any more. I'm hoping we're on the tail end of this congestion. Hope you're looking up soon, too! Eileen > > Hi. Guest guest
Hi Eileen, I'm on day 10 of post op. I had the same congestion you talk about. In the hospital it got so bad on day 3 I thought I was so claustrophobic, I started to panic. At 2:00am. My blood oxygen count was fine: varying from 96% to 100%. So I was technically getting enough air...however I couldn't calm down. My heartrate skyrocketed and I started sweating buckets. I was WET. I paged the nurse by hitting the buttons like 6 times...before that I had asked for nothing. I asked to walk around. She obliged; unhooked all this stuff from me and we walked, and I sweated and panicked. She suggested calling the doctor for valium. I think she got as far as " va " and I said YES. 10 min later or so she came in with the hyperdermic and oh was I better. I finally calmed down. I still breathed like I was wheezing, but I didn't panic. It took until the 6th day for me to clear the congestion. What I ended up doing is taking a ridiculously long, hot shower and then closing one nostril and gently blowing. I know you're not supposed to blow your nose for 4 weeks, but I was at my wits end. I already had a humidifier going and sleep was virtually non-existent due to the breathing. Anyways, with my technique a rather large blood clot came out of my nose and BANG I could breathe. I almost wanted to cry. So I did the same with the other nostril with similar results. Now I get a build up each day, but with a shower and a little manipulation in the morning I can take care of it. BTW, my doctor prescribed an Afrin type product that worked for 12 hours, as well as the saline stuff. And he suggested I put hydrogen peroxide or a diluted 50/50 solution in my nose. I found the Afrin worked for about 3 hours. Best wishes...I hit my wall on day 5 and its all been up from there. I finally slept like 6 hours last night without an earache. A first. I get unbanded in 13 days. - Hubbard > Hi. I'm on day 3 post op, and dealing with a significant amont of > nasal swelling and congestion.
