I am though, Dr. Hess has strict guidelines and I don't really mind. I feel pretty good, slightly nauseause the first day and 1/2 but no puking! I've been walking a LOT and I feel good! I'll be following your posts carefully and eat vicariously through you for a while! LOL. Take care, Jodie
Guest guest
I never really posted just read. Had my lower and upper and genio done tuesday and today I finally need pain medicine. I have Loratab elixr and it is the devil. My face is really swollen today and my neck hurts really bad from not being able to sleep well. My facial muscles hurt they are so tight. The only releif from that is to take a hot shower and then it comes right back with congestion. If I had known then what I know now I would have definately changed my mine. I am still slobbering cause i cant really close my mouth lips are two swollen and I have pain in my ear dont know what that is. Gotta go back to the doctor tues. Hope they can give me something for the swelling my face hurts. That is really my only complaint. Called the doctor today and he told me to alternate heat and ice for the swelling. What do you all think. Teri
Guest guest
Teri.... Have you tried sleeping in a seated position... like in a recliner? You want to be upright so the fluids go down...... I had no pain, just numbness.... still have some numbness left in the cheek and the lower lip and chin area. Are you just sitting around resting? Don't be doing anything at all, let someone else do it. The " slobbering " is drooling, happens when the swelling goes down. The ass't surgeon told me to not blot the drool but to suck it in through the teeth. Worked for me! Are you being told to take sudafed for the congestion? I was given that in the hospital right after surgery and was told to continue it at home. The face will feel tight... you had a lot done to your mouth/jaws and it will take time for all of the swelling to go down but it really does. TELL YOUR SURGEON ABUT THE PAIN IN YOUR EAR! Mine had asked me at first if I had any pain in the ear and I told him no. CALL YOUR SURGEON IF YOU ARE HAVING ANY PROBLEMS! that is what they are there for. If your next post op visit is soon like today tell him then if the next post op visit is in a couple of days.. call him. You should be past the needing ice and heat alternating for the swelling. The swelling going down now is in Mother Nature's hands. Keep on drinking lquids, it is very important. It keeps things moving and the swelling will go down! trust me you will be glad you did this..... Carin

Guest guest
Your Dr. is the best source for help but this site offers many alternatives. The best items we found for the pain and swelling are 1) Arnica gel (a homeopathic remedy) and 2) Helichrysum oil and Balsaam Fir oil. These are both essential oils that help to reduce swelling, regenerate nerve function, and facilitate the quick healing of bruised areas. Our OS said the pain in the ears was just part of the change in the jaw and will get better. If it doesn't, make sure your surgeon knows. You are almost through the worst part and you can still post on this site. You are doing great. IT DOES GET BETTER SOON!!! Oh, almost forgot...are you sleeping with your head elevated? This will help a lot with the swelling. The more rest you are able to get, the quicker you will heal. Our daughter was not resting so our OS gave her some sleeping aids. They didn't help much either, but time has seemed to help the most. Patience is the biggest help with this surgery - whether it is in the food department or the pain department. It does get better! 5 days post op I never really posted just read. Had my lower and upper and genio done tuesday and today I finally need pain medicine. I have Loratab elixr and it is the devil.
