Guest guest
Don't be discouraged. Patience is the hardest part of the whole pre- op process. My surgery was delayed several times, but I just plugged on. (Ok, I admit it, I whined some) The surgical hooks don't hurt at all. I didn't even notice mine. I was in braces 17 months before my surgery Dec. 10. I expect to be in braces another 6 months or so for fine tuning. What exactly are you having done? There are lots of good folks here to help you through this. Ask away. Take care, Becky > Hello to everyone. This is my first post here. Guest guest
I am having my upper jaw moved forward and my lower jaw moved to the right and slightly back. My OS also said something today about shaving some of my chin off so it wouldnt look to prominent. Im not sure about the latter, but we'll see. Im just ready to have a definate surgery date so my family and I can do some planning. Tammy -- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , eledog2001 wrote: > Don't be discouraged. Guest guest
HI, I have braces and am having the surgery tomorrow. (and don't worry, the day will be here before you know it!) Just wanted to let you know that the hooks don't bother me at all. I hardly know they're there, and if they do buy, wax takes care of it! Alix > Hello to everyone. This is my first post here. Guest guest
I've had my surgical hooks and wires on since Monday. I miss my Christmas color ties - no more compliments on my red and green. I didn't know I was getting wires, only knew about hooks, so I was already to pick out black and red ties for my braces - my stepson's college colors (SOU). I was bummed to find out that I have to have actual wire wrapped around the brackets. The wires hurt my lips while my ortho wrapped them around the brackets. I was allowed to look in the mirror and see all of the wires before the assistant trimmed and tucked the wire. The surgical hooks are tearing up the inside of my lower lip. The ortho's assistant gave me three packs of wax but I'm being strong and resisting the urge to put a big glob of was in my mouth. I might submit to the wax today because it really hurts. The assistant forgot to tighten 4 of the 14 hooks so they slide around when I eat and brush. This is annoying and might be contributing to the inner lip pain. ~ > Hello to everyone. Guest guest
Dear , How very sad! Jaleah's ortho gave her a tool to push the hooks down and to the side. She had to cheer at a game the day she got the hooks on so he provided her with a method of removing the discomfort. Both the Ortho and the OS said it was just fine to do this. The OS said when he needed them, he would just lift them back up. He didn't need them until the Sunday after the Wednesday surgery and then he just lifted up the ones he wanted to use and put the elastics on them. I think that a tooth brush or some sort of tough tool that you can push a little bit with would do the trick. This surgery is invasive enough - not having the ability to make yourself as comfortable as possible is so sad. Her Dr's said to use the wax if she was not able to get the hooks pushed back enough. Every wound that is in your mouth is just another opportunity for infection, hence, their willingness to make this procedure as comfortable as possible. If you are not comfortable with what our Dr's did, please contact your own. You definately should not be making mouth sores before the surgery! You are in our prayers, Juli Re: upcoming surgery, feeling a little discouraged I've had my surgical hooks and wires on since Monday. Guest guest
Shoot, -- I'd be using the wax like crazy, and I'd also be on the phone, asking for a time to see one of the assistants to get those hooks tied back down, unless there's a reason not to. There's no reason to get your mouth all chopped up before surgery, for sure! cammie > > Hello to everyone. This is my first post here.
