Guest guest
Juli, Question #1 - Yes was an oinker...my nostrils still look a little flared to me, but not as bad as they were the first few weeks post-op. #2 - Each week, the swelling went down a little more. Now, at 10 weeks, my upper lip and nose look pretty normal (except for the slight flare). #3 - I'm not " way way " post-op, but the numbness in my upper lip has been gone for a couple weeks now. I could smile at 6 weeks, but my smile looked more normal at about 7 weeks and by 8 weeks, it was back. Parts of my bottom lip and chin are still slightly numb, though (I had upper and lower). Look at my pictures on site 2 under " Smooches aka etta " . They show my weekly progression. Hope this helps. Guest guest
I had upper surgery on October 14. My nose was lifted a great deal after surgery. But quite a bit of swelling went down after 2 weeks. So when I went back to school then I wasn't that swollen, you couldn't really see it that much. But then it kept going down gradually every day. Also, my upper lip was not really that numb at all. My upper gums are still numb and the roof of my mouth is still kind of numb. And, my smile came back pretty quickly actually. Probably like a little more than a month, it was definatly less than 2 months though. > Would like to know from any and all post upper jaw surgeries... > > 1) Was your nose, where it attaches to your upper lip, lifted a great deal after your surgery? Guest guest
My nose looks different - wider instead (not turned up). I am just still a tiny bit puffy (after 15 weeks). I am numb in half of my bottom lip and have complete feeling in my upper (I was only numb in my upper lip for a few weeks). I do however have numb gums and have of my palate. > Would like to know from any and all post upper jaw surgeries... > > 1) Was your nose, where it attaches to your upper lip, lifted a great deal after your surgery? Guest guest
It's so annoying when your palate is numb don't you think? or atleast I do. Because you can't really feel your gums anyway but you always feel your palate with your tounge > > Would like to know from any and all post upper jaw surgeries... > > > > 1) Was your nose, where it attaches to your upper lip, lifted > a great deal after your surgery? Guest guest
Yep - it is driving me nuts especially because it is only on one side (left) - but, I think more so are the numb gums - I have to carefully watch myself when I floss and I can't feel a thing - guess it would be good if I had to get any dental work done right now - wouldn't be able to feel anything. > > My nose looks different - wider instead (not turned up). Guest guest
When your gums are numb it makes your teeth feel different too. I found that that makes it kind of a pain to brush my teeth because it's a weird feeling. But when I was at the orthodontist and they were doing stuff to my braces it hurt my teeth more than it usually does. But later on, after i left, only my bottom teeth hurt from changing the wire, the top only hurt as they were doing it. So that was better actually. > > > My nose looks different - wider instead (not turned up). I am > > just > > > still a tiny bit puffy (after 15 weeks). Guest guest
Same here - my teeth are more sensitive - guess we are both healing normally and all going through the same things :-) > When your gums are numb it makes your teeth feel different too. Guest guest
I have been reading more and more about deformed noses after upper jaw surgery. Is the altered nose a common experience for upper jaw patients? My surgery is coming up in 3 weeks. My surgeon never mentioned anything like this to me. Have you been told the nose will return to " normal " after swelling goes down--or is this a permanent change in your looks? > > > > My nose looks different - wider instead (not turned up). Guest guest
I have read many posts about people being unhappy with their noses post op. Mine really looks the same though.. (had upper and lower three weeks ago). At the beginning, it was swollen of course, but now, except for a tiny, tiny turn up at the end, it's the same nose! Also, my palate was never numb, although my gums still are in places.. I think the numbness that kind of seems to hit most folks is in the chin. Good luck!
