Re: Porcelain brackets, etc

My orhto calls the brackets that I have on both upper & lower,

porcelain. I don't know if they are exactly the same as ceramic. I

do know that the porcelain brackets do not pop off as easily as metal

brackets ( I had metal when I was 12). The brackets I have tend to

splinter when they are removed. They come off in very small pieces.

My ortho explained to me that it is just because the material is not

as durable as metal,,so they kind of crumble. The metal brackets pop

off quite easily (she said so and I also recall that it what easy

when I had the metal ones removed when I was young).

I didn't mean to scare any of you. It wasn't exactly painful, more

like uncomfortable. I know that I am not the only person that has a

problem with the grinding tools that they use to grind off the

bonding material (glue). To me this process is very un-nerving and

just gives me the creeps, very similar to fingernails scratching on a

chalkboard.

Too bad after they took all the brackets & glue off they put a batch

of new ones back on just in different positions.

As far as I know, ceramic and porcelain brackets are the same

thing. They are usually less comfortable to have removed than

stainless steel ones, though not usually intolerable. I had 'em on

my upper.
