Hi

Cammie, thanks for your good wishes, - course you can stick your

nose in! :)

- I'm from Godalming in Surrey, having surgery at the Royal

Surrey County Hospital in Guildford.

I have an overjet so was originally just having lower jaw

advancement. Developments since seeing the surgeon have now put me

on the road to upper jaw as well to ensure complete lip competence

as I apparently show more gum and teeth than is the norm.

What I have been told about the op is that it should take about an

hour and a half, with an overnight stay. He has told me that

breathing through the nose will be a problem for a while and that is

born out by many of the posts on here. I am a bit worried about

that but will just cross that hurdle when I get to it!

Apparently I won't be wired but will have a splint on the upper

teeth for about 2 weeks.

I have to see my ortho soon to have surgical wires fitted. I'm not

hundred percent sure what they are - must look on net to find a

picture!

I'm a full time mum with 15 and 10 yr old girls who fortunately are

old enough to do most things for themselves so that should make

after care a bit easier. However, I do have a pretty squeamish

husband - I'm going to sit him down to have a look at some before

and after pictures on the net so that he knows what to expect! My

mum has volunteered to come down and help. But to tell you the truth

I am not sure if I will be that incapacitated. I had ovarian

surgery in September and definitely needed some help because

impaired mobility is the biggest drawback there.

I do see this as a bigger hurdle than any previous surgery I've had,

firstly because it is elective and secondly because I've never

broken bones or had anything skeletal done before. Through reading

this forum over that past two years I know pretty well what to

expect but the reality won't kick in until the time I wake from

surgery!

Re - age for surgery - Fiddlesticks is right in saying that

growth needs to have stopped. Coincidentally my next door

neighbour's son had lower jaw reduction but continued to grow a bit

afterwards.

- where are you from?

Best wishes

Sue (UK)

Thanks for the info.

I am from Scotland, and go to the Edinburgh Dental Institute.

I suppose I will be having surgery soon, as I do seem to have stopped

growing. The only thing that will stop it happening soon, as in this

year, is the fact that my fixed braces where taken off, and i have a

retainer. Why they did this I dont know. I am going to be getting

fixed braces on agian soon, I think. But my last appointment was int

Dec. and they said that they would send me out a letter for an

appointment in 3 months time, but it has been over 2 months and I

havnt heard anything. I also dont want to get fixed braces on before

my 6th year ball, I can cope with havign a retainer for it.

Do you know where about Kat is from?
