Guest guest
Hey Stacdogg, I don't have any regrets having this surgery nor will I ever have any since I knew from the start that it was not guaranteed to fix my problem...but so far, so good...no " valid " complaints. As far as looking for a surgeon, I would suggest you start with your ortho. Most (not all) orthos work with the surgeons to get this done so they usually can and will recommend someone if asked. You would really want to get an ortho who works closely with a surgeon - makes the process much easier as far as information flow goes. There have been many, many people who had problems getting this procedure approved with their insurance company. I suggest you start that process as soon as possible...some have taken years to get approval. However, that's another place where your ortho and surgeon can help. This site has plenty information on what terminology to use and not to use when seeking insurance approval. Check back in the archives - there's a myriad of good information. Fiddlesticks' site 2 has a list of questions to ask your surgeon and a lot of other very helpful information. Just about everything you need to know, you can find on this board, but I must emphasize that the best info will come from your doctors. Good luck. Smooches Any regrets? I was just wondering if anyone out there has any regrets about the surgery? I just found out about this surgery a couple months ago, and have yet to even see an orthodontist for what my situation will involve. I don't even know if my insurance would cover this. Does anyone have suggestions when looking for a good surgean and what questions I should be asking??? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
No regrets so far (3 months post op), just a longer process than I expected (from the very beginning until surgery) and a longer recovery. I would ask members on this group for a recommendations in your area - I got 2 really good ones and went with one of the surgeons recommended for my own surgery - check out the links on this site - there are websites with questions already listed on them that are really good to use and have great information. > I was just wondering if anyone out there has any regrets about the > surgery? Guest guest
Yes, there are some who do. More are very satisfied with the results they get. I am very much pleased with the way my mouth now functions. Some have relief from agonizing migraines, jaw pain, etc., post op, better than they have imagined. There are no guarantees here. The docs are using their best skills to give you a balanced bite, but in so doing they change the stresses on your joints. That can help or hurt, or just not solve the problem. Read more. Ask specifically about the risks and benefits for you. Then weigh the balances and make your own decision. Also ask how many cases headed for orthognathic surgery your ortho and surgeon do in a year. More is better, in this case. You want some folks who are very experienced taking care of you. I would not presume to decide what anyone else should do, and I think parents who must make these decisions for their children must have the most difficult time of all. Look at Fiddlesticks' geocities site, at oss2 and any and everywhere else you can find info. You do want your choice to be an informed one. Best, Cammie > I was just wondering if anyone out there has any regrets about the > surgery?
