Guest guest
Thank you! I'm now about 24 hours pre-op and getting a little bit nervous... for the first time! That's me: not stressing out until it finally hits me in the face! Yesterday one of my good friends came over to help me making soups and more soups... It just made it a bit more real and happening! I'm taking this opportunity to wish good luck to the December 10th- ers, I wonder why this is such a popular date... Good luck to Johanne, I'll think about you (if I remember to do anything at all!) I don't think I'll be able to give you a review of the hospital staff, but from what we saw last Wednesday I'm sure we'll be just fine. Guest guest
I too wanted to add my Good Luck to all the folks going in this week! I wish you quick surgeries, fast recoveries and being home in your own beds and comfort zones as soon as possible. Soon the stress of the upcoming Big Day will be over and you can focus all of our energy on healing and getting back into the swing of things. I just wanted to add that you are so very lucky to have so many folks to be " surgery buddies " with this week. I had a few when it was my turn and it was so comforting to have folks out there who I could " meet up with " online to share stories, ask questions and compare healing with at the same time. Just knowing that a " buddy " was just as tired and hungry and cranky and relieved the surgery was over at the same time as me was great. It is a morale booster! And you may even make some life-long friends. I surely did. Best of luck and see you on the Other Side! Guest guest
December-ees... I have to agree with Irish on the buddy thing. Having a surgery buddy is invaluable and you all have plenty of them. I've claimed as my surgery buddy. She had surgery on 27 Oct and mine was on 30 Oct. She has been a true blessing to me. We " virtually " laugh and cry quite a bit together and when she " gets through " something, I know it won't be long before I'm through it since we're only 3 days apart. It really doesn't work that way since everyone is different, but it feels good to know there really is a light at the end of the tunnel. I guess more than anything, this is a reeealy a " thank you " to for helping me through and a " thank you " to the folks of this site for being there for me also. Had everyone not been so helpful, sweet, informative, nice, truthful and whatever other positive (hey that's one) emotion I can think of, I would not have been so upbeat about my surgery, let alone my recovery. Also, when you all have gotten off the plane on " the other side " , remember that this board is not just to voice how good you're doing...we take complaints and downs and outs, too. It's one of the best ways to get through the tough parts - by voicing it to people who are or have been where you are, plus it helps to prepare those who are going. Good luck and God bless to you all. See you on the other side. Smooches Re: This Week's Surgeries I too wanted to add my Good Luck to all the folks going in this week! Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Thanks for all your words of encouragement. I am scared, anxious, and feel like I am going to have a breakdown any moment. I would probably feel better if I went ahead and had that cry that is just under the surface. My father is so worried but won't say much. He wants to visit me in the hospital, just to be reassured that I am OK, I think. But he doesn't want to see me with my head wrapped in ice and the humidifier bib on. Tubes, forget it. I think he is having feelings of guilt, worry, and fear for me. He really doesn't want to talk about it. We lost my mother a year and a half ago so he is dealing with this alone. Marlaine and for everyone else scheduled this week, I am thinking about you all and praying for your fast recovery. Sending you all healing thoughts. Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, I think we're experiencing the exact same emotions. My stomach is even a little queasy at times. I think you should go ahead and cry. You'll feel much better afterwards. My father is very quiet, too. Never has much to say. It can make it very difficult to figure him out. YOu'd think after 42 years, I could read through the lines, but nope. Anyway, he'll get through this ok. I'm sorry to hear about your mother. That's got to be especially difficult for everyone. Guest guest
Hi Becky, My stomach has been queasy at times too. I thought it was because I have been eating so much. Extra helpings, dessert, etc. Now I realize it is probably nerves. I was awake most of the night. I had no caffeine, no reason, but I just couldn't sleep. Again, probably nerves. Guest guest
Kathleen, All that eating could very well have something to do with the queasy stomach...can we say " Pepto Bismol " ? LOL! You'll be fine. It won't be nearly as bad as you think...take it from someone who's already been there. :-) Good luck on Wednesday. Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, I know my queasiness is from nerves, cuz normally I eat like a horse and nothing bothers me (except when the good ole IBS kicks in--irritable bowel syndrome), but that hasn't happened in a long time. I'm eating my last fast food meal right now (McDs). We went out to dinner last night for my " final real meal " at my fav restaurant. It's funny, but the food wasn't that satisfying to me and they didn't have any ice cream. Boo hoo!! Do you have your bag packed yet? I'm pretty much ready to go. Gonna listen to some relaxing music tonight and practice deep breathing. It really does help me to relax. Hang in there! Becky > > > Hi Everyone, > > > Thanks for all your words of encouragement. Guest guest
Of course you're scared -- but just think, before long you won't have that big ol' scary thing in your future any more. It'll be in your past, and you'll have got through it all with flying colors! Give your papa a big hug and kiss, and reassthat what you're doing is a good step, a positive act for you, designed to make things better. Thank him for his love and support, and tell him that you're worried about not being, um, " presentable " for him in the hospital, but that your caregivers will be helping your recovery. And for heaven's sakes, if you want a good cry, DO IT! if you can, that is. Better by far to get it out now than after the surgery when, if you're having upper as well as lower, you may be fighting congestion and drips and swelling. This is a scary time, but also an exciting one. Think how long you've waited for it to happen. And I am sorry for your loss of your mom, but I'll bet she's smiling down on you and your dad, and offering some help and support to get you through it all. Guest guest
You're almost there, Becky. Just think, soon you'll be " on the other side! " I would imagine that you will get plenty of ice cream, before this is all over. Good wishes to you, Cammie > Hi Kathleen, > > I know my queasiness is from nerves, cuz normally I eat like a > horse and nothing bothers me (except when the good ole IBS > kicks in--irritable bowel syndrome), but that hasn't happened in a > long time. Guest guest
Cammie, My taste buds were all worked up for this fabulous home-made chocolate ice cream. It has several layers of flavors...very hard to describe, but oh so delicious! You're right, though. Guess I'll be eating lots of ice cream soon enough. Hope I do as well as you did during my recovery. Thanks for the kind words. Guest guest
An outright, unpaid plug: If you're where it's available, Blue Bell ice cream comes in a bunch of different chocolates. Dutch Chocolate is intense. Nutty Brownie is fudgy (but has some munchits in it, so watch out). And there are others, too. Even mint chocolate (one of my faves.) Yummm! They owe me the duty to absorbe several thousand calories from my post-op experiences, I figure... You'll do fine. Way better than you think. I'll bet!
