All that Dammit says reflects my experience pretty well, too.

I would suggest that you try to plan in plenty of advance time,

especially since you don't know what you'll need, as well as for

surgeon availability. I'm an old broad, and had given evidence of a

very, very minor heart murmur, as well as some noise in the carotids.

My surgeon didn't care whether I had another echostudy of the heart

(although my internist thought it wise) and my surgeon absolutely

wanted to have another echostudy of the carotids, because he didn't

want to turn my head one way or another and cut off the flow. It was

all fine, and easily scheduled, but it did take some time to get done.

(In actuality, I had no problems, and the carotid clutter seems to

have vanished, post op! A side benefit!)
